When you have a baby face life sometimes likes to throw curve balls at you and people tend to treat you differently even if you tell them your real age. Everyone starts with the initial gasp and the "REALLY?!" It is like they are waiting for me to tell them I'm just kidding and that I'm not even old enough to drive a car. Having a baby face comes with its difficulties just like being short; which I hold both characteristics so I would know. I figured I would put together a few things that have been said to me in hopes that you will understand where I am coming from.
"You aren't old enough to be in college!"
I'm almost a senior so ha. Fooled you.
"You look like such a good girl. That face couldn't harm anyone."
It's true I couldn't and they are right but still, I can be bad. No, I can't, they are still right.
"Is this a fake ID?"
This one always makes me laugh. I did not wait 21 years to be told by a waiter and also the grocery store clerk that I do not look old enough. I did my time and that is a real state ID.
"Are you sure you are old enough to work here?"
A customer asked me this as a gave him his coffee. You had to be 18 to work there and I was 20 at the time. Yes, I am old enough.
"You have such a baby face. You are so cute."
My coworker said this to me just today. Nothing wrong with it I just get told I'm cute cause of my chubby cheeks. Oh and the pinching cheek thing? Yeah, not cool to do on an adult.
"Would you like to look at the kids' menu?"
No, I will order the adult portion of the chicken strips, thank you very much.
"It's funny when you swear because you look so innocent."
I guess its like when you watch those cute baby videos and they are swearing and the parents are just sitting there giggling. That is how I imagine their reactions.
"You look like you just got your license!"
Well, I have had it for five years now so.
"How old are you? 15?"
Not even close but thank you for playing the guessing game with me.
