Everybody is different. And our lifestyles are also different. So it can be tricky to figure out what works for you.
What works for one may not work for you. You could explain this with Ayurveda.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a healthsystem or a way of life. It's centuries old. It is the oldest medicine known to man.
The wisdom can be traced back to the Vedas. The ancient Indian scriptures. Lifestyle and nutrition are important because people are based on a holistic view of humanity.
This means that everything is part of a greater whole.
Three types
Ayurveda is also based on those body types.
These doshas are there because they are known to benefit everyone from slightly different foods.
If you are a fire type (Pitta), then you have slightly different needs for your health than if you are an earth type (Kapha) or air type (Vata).
Five elements
These doshas give direction to the elements we are made of.
Earth, fire, water, air, and ether are five elements. We are all born with a unique combination of these five elements and doshas.
The art is to be in balance. Because as soon as the elements are not in balance, you will have to deal with complaints. And with persistent complaints, you can get sick.
Are you curious about which type you are? Then read the article on cafetopic about well healthorganic:ayurveda-dinner.
Incidentally, there are very few people who are only one type. There are several types, one of which is more predominant.
Ayurvedic food
The Pitta, Kapha, and Vata types each have their own nutritional needs.
For example, with one type, it is better to eat more hot meals; certain spices have a healing effect.
Vata nutrition
The Vata type should feel better with smaller meals. They also like warm, nutritious dishes. And they like hot drinks.
When you are not in balance, you will suffer from dry skin, restlessness, bloating, flatulence, and fatigue.
Because a Vata is often lightly built, with fine hair and dry skin, you will have to do the opposite to feel better.
Opt for juicy fruits and moist, hot dishes such as stews and soups. And make sure you have enough healthy fats from cheese, nuts, whole milk, and nuts.
You prefer to avoid drinking raw vegetables and cold and carbonated drinks.
Kapha nutrition
Suppose you are an earth type and are not in balance. In that case, you may suffer from a slow metabolism, high blood pressure, cholesterol, fatigue, and gloom.
Then you can suffer from: depression, slow metabolism, weight gain, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, lack of energy, and drowsiness after meals.
Kaphas are solidly built, with strong joints and muscles. They have full hair, full lips, and big eyes. Skin and hair are a bit oilier. They like a lot of food, especially sweets.
If you are not in balance, you should eat the opposite.
So instead of a lot of heavy and sweet food such as cake and dairy, opt for light and dry food—lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, potatoes and beans.
Prefer fewer carbohydrates from, for example, pasta and bread.
To prevent obesity, it would help not to take snacks in between and to see lunch as the main meal.
Pitta nutrition
The fire type that is not balanced suffers from headaches, a lot of appetite, acne, anger, and high blood pressure.
Pita represents fire, so you will have to eat the opposite to regain balance. So dry, mild, and cool food. So no soup!
Good: raw vegetables, vegetables, potatoes, and salads. Sweet fruit or sweet vegetables such as pumpkin and carrots are also good.
You can tolerate and eat a lot but stick to regular times and not snack immediately after a meal.
This type is often athletic and sweats quickly. They work hard, and sometimes they ask too much of themselves.
You will have to keep a close eye on how you are in your energy.
Lose weight with Ayurveda.
According to Ayurveda, weight problems arise when we don't listen to our bodies.
Following a diet means that you don't listen to your body. As a result, the body, mind, and soul do not get what they need.
Losing weight should, therefore, not be an agony because that certainly means you are not balanced.
Somewhere deep down, we know what we need, but we no longer hear that voice because of everything we say about health.
If you want to lose weight with Ayurveda, you will often have to stop to listen in the beginning.
Don't eat a few cookies quickly, but first, drink some water and listen to what your body wants. This way, you get to know and recognize more and more signals.
With a specialist, you can then look at what type you are so that you can feel better with the help of certain foods and eating patterns and avoid or reduce the number of foods in the beginning.
