Tis the season of giving, and if you’re like me and cannot afford to give everyone you love the iPhone X, a simple “thank you” text, call, or letter can pull at someone’s heartstrings a lot more than the hottest gift on the market. There is something extra special about receiving a “hey, you’re great…thanks for being there for me this year,” text. Heck, maybe you’re feeling wild and will even pick up the phone and call this special person to tell him/her much you appreciate them. Yes, it really is as simple as that. So, here’s six people you should consider giving thanks to this holiday season.
1. Your family
It doesn’t matter if they are related by blood, or if they are just the people that feel most like home, everyone has some sort of family. Arguably these people have been through the most with you, and know you like no one else does. So, pick up the phone and call your mom, dad, or that friend that you consider a sister, and let them know how much you appreciate them.
2. Your friends
Remember that time you felt like the sky was falling and then your friends reminded you it wasn’t? Yeah, thank them for that. Thank them also for all the fun times you guys shared together this year, and for all the incredible memories you made.
3. Your professors
Everyone has had one teacher or mentor that has helped them get to where they are today. I bet 99% of those people have no clue how much they influenced you. Let them know.
4. Your roommates
Arguably the people who deserve the biggest thank you, since they have literally seen you at your best and worst. If you’re like me and have the best roommates in the world, you know that even the biggest “thank you” doesn’t begin to describe what they deserve—but it’s a start.
5. The person who served as a “lesson.”
This is the person that came into your life and taught you something about yourself. Maybe he/she ended up leaving your life and taught you how strong you are. Maybe he/she taught you to have more confidence, or encouraged you to follow your dream. Regardless if you actually “thank” this person, be thankful for what he/she taught you about yourself.
6. That person that is always there for you.
We all have that one person. The person that you call when you’re bored, sad, mad, on top of the world happy, and every mood in between. Without this person you wouldn’t be you. Call this person, and tell them how much you appreciate and love them.
But don’t stop your “thank you’s” there. Thank the person that opens the door for you, and the cashier that asks about your day. Everyone could use a little more appreciation, and it's not too hard to say those two little words—thank you.
