With the heat of summer, our bodies have definitely taken a toll. Baking in the sun and working hard in the heat and humidity, we all deserve a little TLC. A nice way to unwind and relax is to have your own at-home spa day. And what better way to enjoy a spa day than with one you can eat!

No, I'm not suggesting that after you finish your face mask you wipe it off and eat it. With these two recipes, an avocado face mask and a pink grapefruit body scrub, you'll use half the fruit for your skin and a half for you to enjoy!

Avocado Mask:

Avocado is loaded with vitamin E, healthy fats, and antioxidants to help keep skin soft and smooth. This face mask only takes two ingredients and is the perfect way to moisturize dry skin. Simply mash half an avocado and stir in one tablespoon of honey and you're ready to go! Leave the mask on for 15 minutes, rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. If your skin could use a little extra boost, add two teaspoons of plain, organic yogurt for an extra moisture pump. The yogurt is also good for acne prone skin due to its lactic acid that kills bacteria.

Avocado Snack:

Now it's time for the first snack! There's no better way to use up extra avocado than to make guacamole. This "personal size" guacamole, made with the extra half of your avocado, will be the perfect pick-me-up you'll be looking for. Using the guacamole recipe at the bottom of this link, divide all the ingredients by approximately 1/6 to make yourself an afternoon snack. Plus you'll have something to read while you wait 15 minutes for your mask.

Pink Grapefruit Scrub:

Citrus is one of those scents that just says "fresh." It is a perfect way to pamper your skin after a nice soak in the tub. While coconut oil moisturizes and leaves your skin feeling soft, the sugar smoothes out dry skin, and of course, the grapefruit scent leaves you smelling like summertime.

To make the scrub, squeeze the juice from half of a pink grapefruit and remove the pulp. Then melt a 1/4 cup of coconut oil and add a 1/2 cup of sugar. Mix in the grapefruit juice and add six drops of vitamin E for an extra skin boost if you'd like. You can leave the scrub by your tub or chill it in the fridge for a nice refreshing feel. Use before shaving for extra silky smooth legs.

Pink Grapefruit Snack:

For a refreshing snack after your guacamole, use the second half of your grapefruit. With a knife, break the inside membrane of the fruit, add brown sugar (or your preferred sugar) and enjoy!

Next time you have some time off work and could use a spa day but don't want to spend the money, make this at home spa treatment. Mix up your masks, scrubs, and snacks, grab a tall glass of water and enjoy a nice soak in the tub while the fruits do the magic. Don't forget cucumbers for your eyes, relaxing music and sweetly scented candles for the perfect spa experience.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
