Meet The President: Why ASU?

Welcome to the second segment of "Meet The Reporter," well in this case "Meet The President."

Our team of writers at ASU Odyssey will be writing monthly "Meet The Reporters" as an effort to make things fun for our readers and let you get to know us!

Why I Chose ASU?

I chose ASU because of The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

I've always been interested in writing, but I never knew what kind of writing until I got a little bit older. Once I realized the endless possibilities of a journalism degree, I immediately wanted to go to the Walter Cronkite School!

I visited the Tempe Campus multiple times growing up as my family vacationed in Scottsdale, Arizona every March to support the San Francisco Giants during Spring Training.

I always liked the school growing up and would joke about going there since I visited every year. Little did I know I would end up becoming a Sun Devil and embarking on the greatest journey of journalism!

As I start my junior year of school, I've already been able to do so much in journalism, through school and professionally.

Before school, I engaged in a self-made daily updates Instagram page for the San Francisco Giants with my friend Sophia Susac from high school! This is what initially sparked my interest in social media and reporting, especially being the first to report. The account @SFGiantsGirls is still live today and reached its highest following of 10,000.

Now as a Cronkite student, I've become a Digital Editor for The State Press, a reporter and the President of ASU Odyssey along with a leadership position that directly works with headquarters, and much more!

Reporting has been one of my favorite elements of journalism! From interviewing bands to freelance writing, I've had an amazing experience. Recently at State Press, our newsroom broke national news first before any major news outlet, that was another very exciting thing to witness!

The likes of Anderson Cooper have come to our school and have been able to mentor us through their visits! I've seen the business side of journalism through courses and have even proposed a whole business plan to a radio station! PR has also been introduced to us along with Mass Communication!

I've hosted my own music show with Vanessa Gonzalez on Blaze Radio and have been apart of many clubs including AWSM! My latest endeavor was joining the Pink Campus Rep team, which has taught me marketing skills, event planning skills, and much more!

I cannot wait to see what the rest of my time at ASU holds, and I hope you enjoy learning about why all of our creators chose this school!

Until the next Meet The Reporter!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
