Imagine sitting on the beach, basking in the sun. You’re free from test, quizzes, homework, and stress. You can finally breathe again. This ladies and gentlemen are what I call summer. Summer is a time where people can put school life on hold and actually get more of a chance to experience things. In just a few short months, summer’s going to be here and it’ll be time for you to show off that body on the beach.
Yes, I’m talking to you. You. The one sitting there stuffing Oreos and BBQ chips down your throat. Now that I’ve caught your attention, it’s time to get serious. Like I said, summer is right around the corner and you don’t want to show your winter eating habits on the beach now do you? I didn’t think so.
If there’s anything we all struggle with it’s getting that body right for the summer. February has got to be the hardest month, especially when you’re in college because that’s when the semester begins to pick up making the gym less accessible. Leave it to me to help you get fit for the summer, or at least a little more in shape by then.
As someone who tries (key word: tries) to workout at least three times a week, I know how difficult it can be to eat right on top of that. After burning so many calories at the gym your body craves food, and what do you go to first? Those Oreos. (I do it, too.) Don’t self-shame, self-improve.
Improvement begins with you and only you.
If you want to start seeing some results by May, put the Oreos down, and get your ass in the gym. Exercising 3-5 times a week can improve not only your physical well-being but your mental well-being as well. Every time I come back from doing an intense workout, I feel stronger and more confident knowing I did something to better myself.
A good tip to keep in mind for cardio is the one that I know we all try to avoid. Running. When I first starting running, I noticed I lost weight at a much faster rate than with any other machine I had used before. Time after time, I’ve noticed how much my speed and stamina has improved. Looking back at where you started and seeing how far you come really has an impact on how you view yourself.
This summer, if you’re trying to become a beach beauty, start by doing something that will make you happier. Take the step you’ve always wanted to take and try running or weightlifting. Any physical activity is sure to make your mind much healthier and more confident. Start treating your body right by feeding it nutritional foods instead of ones that make you feel bloated or unsatisfied.
Making the right move for your body is up to you. It’s never too late to start and there’s never an excuse to stop (Unless you’re really sick or something). Make these next few months count by showing yourself that you deserve to feel physically strong and happy.
