As one of my professors once sarcastically put it: “College is weird.

We take thousands of 18 year-olds and put them in one giant place with a bunch of other “kids,” then we expect them to act like adults.”

It does not matter if you are from the Midwest, the South, East or West Coast. Heck, maybe you’re not even from the Land of Stars and Stripes. One way or another, all of us kids, (pretending to be adults) ended up in the same place a few months ago—college. Despite what I initially thought, I soon learned that I had something in common with everyone here…at some point we all miss home.

So, curious to see if everyone misses their mom as much as I do, I contacted 20 nation wide college kids and asked them one question: what do you miss most about home?

Here is what they said:

1. "I miss the comfort of knowing everyone in my small town" - Female / Riverside, IL

2. "driving around in my car (the Fiesta), listening to music, and chasing thunderstorms." - Female / Appleton, WI

3. I miss living in the same state as all the people I love." - Female / Rochester, MI

4. "...definitely my sister" - Male / Philadelphia, PA

5. "...the familiarity of my house and hugs from my parents. My Mom and Dad are so good at consoling me in hard times and celebrating with me in good times." - Female / Troy, MI

6. “definitely Loumalnatis pizza” – Male / Crestwood, IL

7. “warm weather” – Male / Kansas City, KS

8. "...having every place or building that I drive by associated with a good memory" - Male / Royal Oak, MI

9. “chilling with my bros every weekend” – Male / Riverside, IL

10. "I can't even complain because I have a private bathroom here at college, but I really miss my bathtub." - Female / Kaukauna, WI

11. "my dad...he's my main man." – Male / New Berlin, WI

12. "I've always known my Mom was a great cook...but college has really showed me how much I miss her home cooked meals." - Female / Shelton, CT

13. “my bed” – Female / Washington, D.C.

14. “watching the sun set with my friends” – Female / Boston, MA

15. “wifi that actually works” – Male / Montclair, NJ

16. “I miss the traffic, everything is so slow here.” – Male / Hartford, CT

*Author's Note: He goes to school in downtown Milwaukee*

17. “coming home to my dog super excited to see me” – Male / Port Washington, WI

18. “my Mom” – Female / Commerce, MI

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
