It seems pretty simple. What is love? All throughout our lives we've been given certain instances and situations where love is supposed to be spelled out for us. We see it through the screens of television shows and movies and we hear it through our headphones when we listen to the music on our iPod's or when we turn up the radio in our cars. Our friends and family tell us their own stories of the quintessential "love at first sight" scenarios and when they knew that person was "the one" and that every little girl dreams of the day they walk down the aisle of their wedding towards the love of their life.

But what some people don't seem to understand is all of that is just a worked up fantasy that gets conspired into their heads only for them to be disappointed because the reality can never live up to it. I know you may think that I'm some utter cynic when it comes to love and that may be true. Maybe it's because I don't give in to what society and the media and people in my lives tell me about love. Maybe it's because I haven't ever been in love and the only people I say those three words to are my mother, my dog and my friends when we're hopelessly drunk.

Recently though my views on love have started to change where I can actually start to see the walls I built up so high to scare away love inside me come crashing down. I couldn't stop thinking about what that "L" word meant to me, so I wanted to reach out to other people to see what they had to say, 13 people, to be exact. What I discovered was an array of different answers to show that we all have unique ways to describe love that is deserving of hearing and not just the same stories we've heard all our lives. Here's what they had to say:

1. Age 25

"To me, love means that your heart feels full, to have this person be a part of your life. Even when you are mad at him/her you still want to hug them and tell them you love them through the tears. Love means to have someone you can be absolutely stupid with and they still love you for you."

One word to describe love: Overwhelming

2. Age 23

"Love is giving the absolute best version of yourself no matter the circumstances. It's unconditional. Being in love felt like a hot knife in your back and the most intense feeling of acceptance and passion you can feel, all at the same time."

One word to describe love: Confusing

3. Age 25

"Love is when you care about someone other than yourselves overall being, physically, emotionally and spiritually."

One word to describe love: Everything

4. Age 24

"Endless commitment and devotion to someone you can't live without. Being in love felt like the best and scariest thing all at the same time."

One word to describe love: Bliss

5. Age 21

"Love is not looking for your other half, but your other whole. A whole person with their own goals, favorite things, pet peeves and little oddities. Love is experiencing life's adventures together. Being in love was simultaneously the best and worst thing I have ever felt. It wasn't just the swing dancing, the dinners out and the kissing or cuddling. It was the brushing of hands accidentally, the eyes meeting across a busy room, the loudest, great laugh I have ever heard. It was game nights, jam sessions, breakfast in bed, sunsets, grocery shopping and socks sliding on a tile floor. I had thought twice before that I was in love, but when you really, truly feel it for the first time, you know. You just know. Love isn't just the grand gestures, it's also the mundane details. Those parts are what you miss the most."

One word to describe love: Vulnerability

6. Age 25

"Love means to care. Care to be involved, to be in tune, be excited, be happy, to be there. To care isn't easy, but when you do I think that's when you love. I've been with my boyfriend for ten years and it's easy to be in love when someone is your best friend. It's like at the end of the day when everything has gone wrong, that person is the only thing that's going to make it better. And they don't even need to talk, they're just there. "

One word to describe love: Unimaginable

7. Age 41

"Love to me means happiness. When I was in love my heart felt full and my world was complete."

One word to describe love: Complete

8. Age 20

"Love is the most important thing. You can't go through life without experiencing it, even if it breaks your heart after. Love is being comfortable enough to give your heart to someone knowing they have the capability to break it at any second. Being in love felt like your world was at ease. You no longer felt alone, you had someone to share everything and anything with no matter how scary it may have been."

One word to describe love: Growth

9. Age 22

"Love means kindness."

One word to describe love: Joy

10. Age 23

"Love is caring about someone so deeply. Acknowledging and understanding everything about them and feeling comfortable to express the true you with them."

One word to describe love: Stability

11. Age 60

"Love is feeling content and knowing you can be by yourself but not alone. It's being able to face your demons because someone has your back. Knowing that you can have your own opinion without the fear of losing someone's friendship."

One word to describe love: Unconditional

12. Age 22

"Love means to feel fulfilled and being in love felt like your world meant something and it felt full."

One word to describe love: Indescribable

13. Age 25

"Love means to trust, to care, to have kindness and support. Being in love felt terrifying and thrilling all at the same time."

One word to describe love: Horrifying

Well, there you have it. And as for me, I guess I could say that love is simple. Because once you see it unfold right before your eyes for the very first time in your life, where your smile grows bigger and your cheeks are red and flushed from laughing so much with someone. Your hands are no longer as cold as they used to be because you have someone to hold onto them now.

Love is being able to be your absolute and truest self, where doing a burping contest in the middle of a quiet restaurant seems normal. Love is never having to second guess yourself because they'll always encourage you and see the best version of yourself even when you can't see it. Love is being able to feel so safe with someone that you feel the need to tell them everything about your life and you know they'll listen to every single word. Love is spending your Sundays laying on that person's chest in bed, wrapped up in blankets, with them reading and playing with your hair as you drift off to sleep.

Love is being able to sit in complete silence and not have it feel awkward. Love is getting to know their favorite candy or genre of book so you can leave little surprises for them for when they get home from work. Love is being able to cry in front of them and have them wrap you up in their arms and whisper that everything is going to be okay, even if it doesn't feel that way but yet you still believe them despite it.

Love is singing terribly to those cheesy love ballads in the car at the top of your lungs together. Love is watching terrible romance movies together and laughing at how unrealistic it is. Love is being able to tell people your own story of how you met and realizing it's better than anything you've ever heard before. Love is knowing that when you look at that person, you finally feel complete.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
