As A Millennial, And I Live In The Now— Not In The Past

"Millennials are the future of our country and of our political parties, and they shouldn't be unfairly characterized or labeled. They deserve to be heard." - Dana Perino

As A Millennial, And I Live In The Now— Not In The Past

As a Millennial living in today's world, I am appalled by how many people still remain sexist, bigoted, homophobic and racist.

Growing up I learned that everyone is created equally and that they should be treated as such. There should be no discrimination because of someone's race, gender, or religion.

As a Millennial, I heard older generations call my generation disinterested and lazy. All I can ask is where is the evidence for this? Every single millennial I know or have met is anything but lazy. They are working harder than ever before to change the world, making it a better place. They are striving for equal rights, and they are overstressed with making sure that they make a good life for themselves.

Before the Baby Boomers jump in saying that I am complaining about how unfair life is. That is exactly what I am doing.

I believe that as we have almost reached the end of 2018, we need to make a change in how we treat the people around us. We need to treat everyone with kindness and compassion. We need to look at everyone equally. Older generations need to understand we are trying the best we can.

As a nineteen-year-old, I am currently a full-time student in college. As well as working six days a week, my weeks have gotten rather busy. I am just one example, but does this sound lazy to you? I am not complaining about what I have to do, but I am simply explaining to you that I, much like other millennials are hard-working and care about what their future holds.

I know people in my generation who have gotten full college degrees, and yet cannot find a job within their field or anywhere. Despite trying for countless months to find a career for themselves, they settle. They settle on something they did not pay tens of thousands of dollars to get an education for.

As everything continues to increase in price, from gas, to food, to living spaces, my generation has to settle if they cannot find what they are looking for because the price of living has expanded to extreme amounts.

We have opinions on changes our society should be making. We understand life was different when you were our age. This is called growth. If we don't grow as a society that would make us actually lazy and disinterested.

Just like technology has expanded so have the minds of my generation. Older generations may call us narcissistic. Repeating myself from earlier, where is your evidence? Before you start saying Social media, Social media is used from Millennials to Baby Boomers.

There literally is no reason to express that millennials, specifically are self-absorbed due to using social networking slightly more than older generations. Although I do not agree with the idea of social media, I still believe it is necessary in our society.

So now that I've spent all this time explaining why baby boomers complain about us, maybe I should stop complaining about them.

Perhaps this is all about perspective; I mean their perspective is different than ours. They didn't grow up with computers, iPhones, social media, Etc.

Perhaps this is just another misunderstanding, and a little communication between my generation and their's could go a long way.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
