Being a “jock” in high school and even a “theatre nerd” at times, I’ve been performing and watching the plays at my school. The arts is something I feel very strongly about. You don’t have to be athletic to join or be born with something that others may not have been born with (athletic genes for example). With the arts, ANYONE can be apart of it. I know you’re saying “anyone can play a sport too,” yes that may be true, but if you are not good at that particular sport you could potentially be cut from the team or if you’re on the team not play at all.
The reason I’m writing this is to express how sad I truly am to hear that the fall play was cut this year due to the budget. The arts are the first thing to go, ALWAYS. Being from both sides (an actress and varsity athlete) I can assure you that being apart of the school play is just as hard as being apart of any sports team at Trumbull High. They put in the same amount of work as any sports team, maybe more at times.
Being apart of my fall play changed my life. Yes, that sounds so cliche but it is so true. A number of doors it has opened for me, a number of amazing people I’ve met was truly life impacting. Anyone can be apart of this amazing experience, so why is this the first thing to go? Why take away something ANYONE at Trumbull High could be a part of?
No sports team is better than the arts and no field in the arts is better than the sports team, they are both equal and that’s the thing most schools don’t understand.
