I understand. You're probably thinking...another article about Christmas, really? But don't worry! I am about to give you a different outlook on Christmas all around the world.

I want to list Christmas traditions that other countries do, that us folks in America do not do, but maybe we should start!

Bananas and Christmas?

Bananas and Christmas don't seem to go together but our friends in India would have to say differently. People in India still go to church on Christmas Eve and do gift-giving, but because they do not have fir trees or pine cone trees to decorate, they usually make do with mango trees or banana trees instead. So, instead of seeing the traditional Christmas trees lighting up the streets, you will see banana and mango trees being lit up and decorating the streets of India!

Marriage from Footwear....

Meanwhile in the beautiful country of Czech Republic, if you do not want to be single for another Christmas, you are in luck! If you stand with your back to the front door and throw your shoe behind your shoulder and it lands with the toe pointing to the door, you are going to be married soon! Next time you are in Czech Republic give it a go!

Warning: Only works on Christmas, in Czech Republic.

Christmas=KFC

Yup, you read that title right, just like turkey is a staple for Americans on thanksgiving, Kentucky Fried Chicken is a must for Japanese on Christmas day. This is KFC's biggest sale day in Japan thousands of buckets of chicken will be sold.

The Goat must live!

This tradition in Sweden goes back to 1966. In 1966, a 13 meter straw goat was put up in the town square in Gavle Sweden. At midnight on Chrismas Eve, the goat went up in flames! You think they would stop after this right? NO! People still build the goat, and people still burn it down, this goat has been burned down 25 times.

These are just a couple things that others around the world do to celebrate Christmas.

So tell me, how do your unique Christmas traditions compare to these?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
