My second to last week as a member of the CIEE London Open Campus program was spent continuing to discover the city before it all ends and I return to the U.S. During my 17th week abroad, we visited some new food places that we discovered online and had wanted to try for a while.

On Tuesday, we went to a bubble waffle and bubble tea stand outside of Green Park, called Nosteagia. There, we tried the bubble waffles, which were decorated with different toppings as if they were ice cream cones. I got the Mr. Oreo, which has Nutella, chocolate chip cookies, cream and chocolate sauce, with M&Ms added on top. Likewise, Erin tried the Cookie Monster one, which was essentially identical, just without M&Ms. It was certainly a dangerous place to go because another food truck across the way had fish and chips, so you could stay there all day eating the food if you so desired.

My British Theatre: A History class went to Gate Theatre on Thursday night to see the play, “Assata Taught Me.” The theatre is located in Notting Hill above The Prince Albert Pub, and it is an intimate setting with a limited amount of seating. The show was great, starring Adjoa Andoh as Assata Shakur and Kenneth Omole as Fanuco, and was easily my favorite one that I have seen during Block III.

After class on Friday, we went to a place called Hipchips in Soho. We had planned to visit Hipchips for a while now. When we got there, we ordered both the sweet and savory chips, and then ordered five different dips. The sweet dips that we ordered included campfire s’more and a mousse dip, and the savory ones were blue cheese with apple chutney, a cheese dip and baba ganoush. All of the dips were delicious, especially the cheese and blue cheese ones, and it was well worth the wait to go there before we leave.

On Sunday, I saw my family for my cousin Ben’s birthday. We met at BrewDog, a pub in Camden Town, before going to a nearby Japanese restaurant, Sen Nin. It was great to see everyone again before I head back and it was incredibly cool to watch our food prepared in front of us on the restaurant’s public stove.

As I enter my final week in London, it is hard to believe that I will be returning to the U.S. after feeling both that I was gone for a long while, but also as if I just arrived in London yesterday. Additionally, it is making me realize how much I have seen during my four months here, but also how much more I could see if I spent more time here.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
