A Reflection On My Freshman Year At CofC
Hunter House

Today I just finished my first year of college and it has been a wild ride, but I would never take back one second of it.

Looking back on my college experiences I have a good amount of stories to tell.

If you haven't already, go read my article about my first psycho roommate who tried to put a curse on my family here.

I witnessed a lunar eclipse with some of my best friends atop of the popular Charleston shop Skinny Dip #ad. As we sipped iced tea we put on our eclipse glasses and watch an incredible feat that only lasts once in a lifetime.

I have enjoyed several breakfasts', lunches', and dinners' with some of my amazing friends in the dining halls located on campus.

I experienced my first college party where we followed a random group of frat guys to a party that was located in some random building on King St. that we had to climb up two flights up stairs and once we got in they closed the door. So after a little while, I panicked and left because I just wasn't feeling it.

I witnessed a magic show, played casino, went on a ropes course, and enjoyed a Disney themed night with the Cougar Activities Board.

I was a part of a First Year Experience group where we had three classes together and we all became super close. I would do anything for those guys. (We made our own text messaging group chat called Theatre Hoez.)

Talking about groups I can't forget the acapella group that I am a part of called "The Charleston Vibes." We had a Fall Concert, Spring Concert, and performed at several other events as well. We have created some amazing arrangements and even more amazing bonds. Finding a group on campus where you feel like you belong is really important during your freshman year. Whenever I needed to talk I knew I could call on of these guys. This is a group that I am excited to be with next semester and hopefully for the remaining semesters here on campus.

Another group that I became even closer to were my Sea Life Minis. Sea Life Minis is a subgroup of what originally was a GroupMe we were all thrown in, but once we met in person we all kind of went our separate ways. This group contained three incredible individuals Haley Thon, Alayna Robertson, and Chris Barongan that I have become extremely close too and I am proud to say are some of my best friends for life. I know that no matter what we will stay so close.

When being connected to that group I met other friends from that such as Katie Certain and Dyllan Covey where we ended up bonding over the Try Guys so we deemed ourselves the Try Pals.

I also got to experience the fun and magic of holidays such as Halloween and Christmas right here in beautiful Charleston. Being in Charleston the scenery is always beautiful year round and you are right near the beach. I definitely took advantage of that.

To conclude this journey we all came together for the last supper at Mellow Mushroom for $5 pizza.

Soccer Games, parties, performances, beach trips, magic shows, friendships, and so many more memories were made during this short period of my life that will have such a huge impact on my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
