Breakups are never easy, especially if it is the end of a serious relationship.
Regardless of the length, the impact that someone has can never be anticipated or measured and while some breakups can seem quick and easy, many of them hurt more than you can imagine.
However, there are some signs that you may be too obsessed with your ex and doing the following things cannot help you or them, and it only hinders your ability to move on healthily into a new relationship or even just diminish your ability to continue on with your regular life.
So, are you too obsessed with your ex?
1. You keep checking their social media.
2. You obsess over who is in their social media.
3. You have their post notifications on.
4. You refresh snapchat just to see their story.
5. You keep asking mutual friends about them.
6. Every time someone texts you, you hope it’s them.
7. Additionally, when you realize they aren’t texting you, you re-read all of the old text messages.
8. You cannot delete your texts with them.
9.You look for them in every potential romantic partner you meet.
10. When you’re with your friends, you always manage to bring the conversation back to talking about your breakup.
11. You keep replaying what went wrong in your relationship.
12. You plot to get them back.
13. You daydream about them.
14. You keep listening to their favorite songs.
15. You sit in their favorite restaurant and order what they usually order.
16. You join activities just to see them.
17. You go out and hope to see them.
18. You purposely run or walk by their house.
19. You constantly look through your old photos.
20. You haven’t changed your background picture with them.
21. You haven't changed their name in your phone from your cute pet name.
22. Or you could never DELETE their contact.
23. You try to go to places they like in hopes of seeing them.
24. You try to change yourself to get them back.
25. You obsess over what went wrong and try to fix it to entice them to get back with you.
26. You go to all their events like their games and performances.
27. You stalk their friends on social media to see pictures of them.
28. You haven’t deleted your snapchat conversations.
29. You curate a revenge plot against their potential romantic partner.
30. You didn't give them back the key to their apartment.
31. OR you DUPLICATED the key to their apartment.
32. You didn’t give back their sweatshirts or any clothes you borrowed.
33. You keep their gifts, not for monetary value, but for sentimental value.
34. You wish them happy birthday and wait for times when you guys can get together.
35. You want them to personally invite you to places.
36. You keep important dates in your calendar as excuses to reach out to them.
37. You get upset when you hear about their plans with other people.
38. You think about them constantly and wonder what they’re doing multiple times a day.
39. You talk to them like you guys are still in a relationship.
40. You watch their favorite shows and listen to their favorite songs to feel closer to them.
41. You can’t imagine your life without them.
Regardless of how many items you checked off on this list, the most important part is finally learning how to let go. Once you get past the pain of going to their favorite places or hearing your “couple” song, start to wean yourself off of social media.
Checking social media every once in awhile is not so bad but if you watch their posts as obsessively as the "Beyhive" watches Beyonce’s social media, it can be an issue. Breakups are not easy but you are strong enough to get through. Focus on yourself and always aim to learn from every experience. After all, they became your ex for a reason, don’t forget that.
