Are We Starting to Live in a World with No Headphones?

The new IPhone 7 is quite different.

Have you heard about the new iPhone that just came out? Apple is always coming out with new phones. It’s common to see a mob in the Apple store because everyone wants the newest iPhone. The phone that just came out is called the iPhone 7. It has a better camera, better battery life, speakers, and it is resistant to water. The key difference is that this new cell phone does not have a headphone jack. What is a headphone jack, you ask? It’s located at the bottom of an iPhone on the left side. Basically, this is a small hole that allows you to plug in your headphones so that you can listen to your music privately, without any distractions.

There’s been a lot of debate whether this new design is a negative or a positive. My view is that not being able to plug in your headphones to your phone is horrible. Sure, there are wireless headphones. But what if you can’t afford them? Why do people need to replace a perfectly good set of headphones for wireless ones? I have great headphones and I love using them because they are simple to use and they are comfortable.

The world we live in today is shifting, especially when it comes to technology. Nothing is staying the same. Eventually, are headphones not going to exist? How will we listen to music in public? How will we block out distractions? Is this what the world is coming to?

When I wear headphones, I feel cool. I love being able to tune everyone else out and just concentrate on my task. When I exercise, I wear headphones so that I can listen to music while working out. There is music being played at the fitness center at my college, but there’s a freedom about picking my own music. I know that wires can get tangled so headphones become a hassle sometimes, but I’d much rather live in a world having to deal with that struggle than not having headphones at all. I would rather make that choice whether I want to wear headphones or not, rather than the iPhone becoming unaccommodating to headphone users. Wouldn’t you rather pick your poison?

For Android users, this is not a problem yet. There is a place to plug in your headphones. But eventually this might become an issue. You never know what will happen! All I know is that when I go on road trips with my family, headphones are a must! No offense to anyone in my family, but you know the drill.

My advice to anyone who is debating about getting the iPhone 7 is to think about your priorities. Are you a big music listener or would you rather have a longer battery life? Do you want wireless headphones or regular ones? Don’t feel pressured into buying the newest version just because everyone seems to be buying it. I’m guilty of wanting the newest version, but what we all have to realize is that a lot of people can’t afford cell phones. It doesn’t matter what version of the iPhone you have; that’s not important. For me personally, I am going to stick with the iPhone 6+. For anyone who hasn’t made their decision, if you’re a music lover like me, don’t buy the iPhone 7. Keep dancing to music through your headphones like nobody’s watching.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
