April: a college student's arch nemesis

April is a tough month for college students. It causes us to be stuck in a void, where your so close to summer and being done with this year, yet at the same time you wonder if you can make it (by the way, you'll make it). Though Bob and Linda no longer go to college and Tina, Eugene, and Louise aren't quite there... this dysfunctional family truly captures the essence of college students in April.

Doing laundry sparsely

Because who has money for that? That weird, wrinkly shirt is now your best friend.

Being annoyed that you didn't make a fifth alarm

Because five is not enough. Pro tip: make your snooze one minute apart, not 10.

What's more important: your social life or homework?

Yes parents, we seriously weigh out the pros and cons of missing assignments so we can go out.

Knowing you can't have another absence

You shouldn't have used those absences for the "I don't feel like it excuse." Sadly, you have to go to class sick. Choose wisely, kids.

Thinking about another dining hall meal

It could be cat food... who knows, man. You kinda just except it.

Believing that your current situation is the absolute worst

Spoiler: it's not.

Wondering if your major is worth it

Hold it! Yeah, you, the journalism/English/history/philosophy//theater/pottery major! You'll get there. Just keep doing what you do best. (And do a lot of networking!)

Should you go to class today?

After a serious discussion with yourself about how you'll benefit from not going, you realize that it's still better to go.

Reading the half-assed paper you wrote at 2 a.m.

32 grammatical errors and a thesis that's so broad it seems like a middle school student wrote it? Yeah, you better edit that thing before it's submitted.

Realizing that summer is near...

Cue maniacal laughing with homework burning the background.

...After finals

Ah, so close but so far.

But in the end, everything you do is for a reason and you'll reach your goal

Yeah April sucks, but think about all of the great things that will happen after it's over! You'll graduate or see your family and friends or make a lot of money. Think about the positives, never the negatives. Everyone believes in you... now you just have to believe in yourself.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
