eeIn a world of mass chaos and perpetual stress, it's important to appreciate the small beauties in life. This is a list of 10 things in everyday life that I believe tend to become unnoticed as the days go by. I hope that bringing them back into your line of sight will show you that there are many things to appreciate in this world, although they might seem insignificant to daily affairs. It's important to appreciate the little things

1. Popcorn

Popcorn is a blessing onto the world. Small, billowy, pieces of heaven cloaked in a layer of warm butter, savory salts, or rich oils. Whatever you prefer, you can put literally anything on popcorn and it would taste good. It's a comfort-food lover's delight.

2. A good ending to a book

I don't know about you, but a good ending to a book makes my life complete. An ending that makes love bubble up inside your chest, that makes your toes curl and a smile stretch across your face. An ending that makes you clutch that book to your chest like it is your most prized possession. An ending to a book that makes you put that book at the very top of your bookshelf, where you hold all of your most prized books. That's what I live for.

3. Colors

Literally everything has color (unless you're one of those disagreeable people that believes that grays, blacks, and whites are shades) and each and every one of those colors is different. Although red is red, a red rose is different from a red brick. And just the fact that our eyes contain the ability to see these colors... what a beautiful skill. What a talent so taken for granted. Colors are beautiful, but sometimes we forget they are there.

4. Being under a heavy blanket in the winter

There's nothing like it. The indescribable pleasure of snuggling under a heavy blanket and letting your own body heat warm you up whilst knowing the outside world is filled with cold air is a feeling I will never pass up. Not for anything.

5. A good pen

I'm talking about a pen that works with the paper, where every stroke feels like ice-skating on a frozen lake, and every bit of ink makes your words bold and pure. We've all had those pens where it seems no mistake could be made with them.

6. Laughing until you cry

It hurts, but it hurts so good. The type of laughs in which no sound is emitted, the ones where you're forced clutch your stomach and bend over. The type of laughs that cause tears to well up in the corners of your eyes. That's when you know something is truly funny.

7. A good night's sleep

I don't think this one needs to be described.

8. A glass of cold water to refresh a parched throat

Have you ever been so thirsty that you can't imagine anything better than a glass of water? And when you do finally get it you drink the whole thing without a breath and let that single drop run off the end of your chin and when you set the glass down you let out a long sigh and for a split second life is great. Water is life.

9. The smell of home

The moment that you realize your home has a scent when you return from a long trip or absence, when you realize that your bed has a smell and your clothes have a smell. For a split second you know what home smells like. It's an almost cathartic feeling.

10. Chapstick on chapped lips

There is not a more uncomfortable feeling than chapped lips, it's a feeling that you can't ignore once you notice it and that only gets worse the better you try to make it. The feeling of applying Chapstick to chapped lips elicits a feeling of health, of utter hope.

In dire times, focus on the little, unappreciated beauties in life. This is just a small list of many. Don't forget to stop and smell the roses my friends.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
