I’m a grandma in many ways. I go to bingo sometimes on Sundays and Wednesdays. My hips hurt and click every once in a while. I complain nearly constantly. I’m always the wrong temperature. I go to bed as early as possible instead of staying up late and partying. I don’t know the words to many of today’s top hits and nor do I plan on learning them.
In the process of writing these details down, I have now realized why my grandma and I get along so well. That was not the point of this article though.
My point is I don’t want to be a phone grandma. I’ve had my iPhone 6 for almost three years now and I have no idea what to do. My battery is getting worse and the wait list for a new battery is insane. I could upgrade whenever I want, but I don’t know what I want to get. So here is my thought process on the phones that are currently on the market.
*This is going to be an opinion-based rating on Apple’s current products*
iPhone 7.
So this is one of the strongest contenders but also one of the weakest? My main issue is that it doesn’t have a headphone jack! I listen to music and charge my phone in the car. My aux cord is essential to my mental well-being on my daily commutes in to town. Yeah, it’s newer, has a rose gold option (my inner basic white girl is yelling), and its battery will be undeniably better, but it’s only a couple dollars a month less than the 8, so is it worth it?
iPhone 8.
It. Is. So. Pretty. Yeah, it doesn’t come in rose gold, but the gold option is absolutely stunning. It isn’t the most expensive option but it isn’t the cheapest. It has an entirely different charging system that I would have to adjust to, and your girl is not the keenest on change. There’s also no headphone jack. Once again. And to be honest, this is one of the biggest hurdles that I’m facing with wanting to upgrade my phone. I want a headphone jack but I want it on a newer model! Apple, hear my cry!
iPhone X.
For me, this one is tempting but it is by far the most expensive and I feel like if I buy this now, when Apple releases its new models in September, the new iPhone XS or whatever it is going to be called will be what I’m looking for.
The cell phone game right now is hardcore. You have people who have Samsung and you have iPhones, with a few Pixels sprinkled in there. But, personally, Apple has me by the credit card. I’ve grown up with Apple products. My iTunes library spans so many years. The iPhone interface is so familiar to me. I wish I could transfer over to Samsung Galaxys but I’m too invested now. So really, this article is just me complaining about the market not having what I want and being frustrated about it. Apple, come September, you guys better step your game up.
