An Open Letter To My Big

Dear Big,

There will come a time in the near future that we will go our separate ways. We will not see each other every day and we may not be able to talk to each other every day, but you will never stop being important to me. No matter where life takes us or what happens, you will always be my person. Whether that time that we have to leave each other comes within a couple of months or a couple of years, here is a few things I do not want you to ever forget:

You’re my person.

No matter what, you are the person I turn to for everything. You know me better than anyone else, from my darkest secrets to my brightest moments; there are very few people who know half of what you do. You will be at every big life moment for me, just like I will be for you. When I get married, have children, and anything else that life throws at me, I’m bringing you along for the ride.

You will always be my big.

Yes, you are one of my best friends, but you’re also my role model. I look up to you and all that you do. You’re the big sister that I never had. I will always turn to you first for life advice because chances are, it has already happened to you.

Thank you.

Thank you for choosing me to be a part of your family. I love you with all my heart and I feel so blessed to be your little. Thank you for being the best. Thank you for giving me a great college experience. Thank you for giving me an awesome grand-big; I love her, too (even though we haven’t met yet). Thank you for always having my back no matter what. Thank you for the tough love and putting me in my place when I need it. Thank you for absolutely everything you do, you are perfect to me in every way.

I love you.

There is no better way to put it, but I love you like a sister and a best friend. I don’t know how I managed life without you before, and now I can’t imagine my life without you in it. You are my ride or die, along for the ride for the rest of our lives. You’re half my soul and half my heart, without you I would fall apart.

I promise you that I will never let our relationship die out. I want you there through the rest of my crazy life adventures, and I hope you want me through yours. I love you to the moon and back, and I am so proud to call you my big. I truly believe we are the best big/little duo out there. Thank you for being my best friend, forever and always.

Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
