The power of original soundtracks in movies are often underrated, overshadowed by the visuals of a film. Inspired by John Cage and his phenomenal musical piece “4’33,” “Anonymous Soundtrack” attempts to capture the imaginative capacity of musical soundtracks. Featuring the sizzling, disorienting musical track “Hand Covers Bruise,” the film compels the viewer to fill its visual void with rampant imagination arisen from music. It is by disabling the viewer’s visual faculty that “Anonymous Soundtrack” denies the imposition of visuals on the viewer’s response, affirms the viewer’s creative autonomy, and highlights the viewer’s attempt to create new space—a space of his or her own—in the imaginative terrain.
