Dear "Ghostbusters" (1984),
First off, I am sorry I have to differentiate you like this. I too miss simpler times when I merely had to say "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II." With that being said, if any good is to come from the remake of you, it's that it gave me a chance to reflect upon you. Upon reflection, I realized just how important you are to me.
As a kid, you were a source of inspiration to me. You were one of the first movies I remember watching and you left an impression on my stupid kid mind. We all grow fearful of ghosts growing up. You didn't help out when it came to that. You had your way of scaring the ever living hell out of me and other people. Fear usually gets a negative connotation, but it is fundamental for anyone growing up. Fear creates conflict for us to eventually overcome. Without fear our lives lose a tinge of purpose.
Even though you were an agent of fear, you also gave us a solution to your fear: comedy. You are one of the funniest creations the world has ever had the opportunity to experience. You have a collection of some of the funniest talented people at the worlds disposal. You, along with "The Simpsons,' had a hand in developing my sense of humor. Which, at the end of the day, is all I have going for me. I'd probably hate myself if I didn't have my sense of humor. So, I owe you in some way that.
You were not only fundamental when it comes to introducing the world to fear and comedy mixed together; you were fundamental in introducing the world to pure, unadulterated creativity. You are one of the most creative pieces of art ever created. From the way your plot is complied to how your ghosts look, you created something truly special and unique in a world that has become far from special and unique. You inspired me to want to make something so creative it could live up to something like you. You gave me drive to want to dedicate my life to movies. Just for being so creative.
So, to you, "Ghostbusters," all I have for you is gratitude. I am grateful for the fear you gave me as a twerp growing up. I am grateful for the comedy you had that still keeps me laughing to this day. I am grateful for your creativity which still inspires me to this day to be a great content creator. I am grateful for your all-star cast including Harold Ramis, may he forever rest in peace. I am grateful that you'll still be here for future generations to enjoy. So, thank you.
With much admiration,
Justin Gordon.
