We have been labeling people as "best friends" since our first day of elementary school, maybe even before, because it was so easy to find someone and instantly claim them as your best friend. There was never a better feeling than having this person: through the awkward middle school stages, the drama-filled high school days, or worse, dealing with the pain of a breakup. And although we may have claimed to have a thousand best friends throughout the years, there was one, and if you are lucky, maybe even two, who truly showed you what it was like to have a best friend.
Dear friend,
Thinking about the past, I never realized the impact you were making throughout the years. Not just on my life, but on everyone's. I can now see why God put you in my life. (Not that I haven't always been thankful!) But now, I can easily see the reasons: I needed the strength, for the times that I felt like my world was falling apart. I needed the kindness, to give to others who didn't quite know how to give it themselves. And most importantly, I needed the safe zone (with no judgement) to cry on when life kept seeming to pull me down.
If you're feeling down, just know I am always here for you like you were for me. When you're struggling to find the motivation to study for that test, when you feel like things just won't get better, or when you need to binge watch Netflix and eat your body weight in ice cream because your week was just too much to handle (I can make that sacrifice), I'll be here. Whether you're 10 minutes away or 10 hours (that's why FaceTime was invented right?), you can count on me.
And lastly, in case it wasn't already implied, I want to say thank you. Thank you for sticking up for me when nobody else would. Thank you for showing me it is okay to not be okay and that things really do get better. Thank you for being there through the broken friendships and the heartbreaks that I never thought would heal. Thank you for showing me what it is like to have a best friend.
Love always,
Your Best Friend.
