Hey, Scheduling…I hate you. Yeah, I really do. The amount of people I see all around campus, including myself, that are stressed out because of you is more than astounding. Not to mention that this is happening right around midterms, a strike potential, and I’m sure countless other things being due for pretty much everyone.
Why do you suck, you ask? Well, it’s pretty simple.
Everyone is told what classes to take to graduate and we’re all given advice on when to take certain classes by our advisors. This list of classes is organized to get most of us out in four years, depending on the program. Now, I fully intend to graduate and do my student teaching in Spring of 2019 and I really do not want you to get in my way.
What if you add a minor, though? Or two? Or even another major? Well, chances of you graduating on time decrease. One minor, sure, you will most likely graduate on time. Two…you’re going to struggle. Another major…yeah, good luck. I’ve already figured out that I need to take a class for my minor each semester until I student teach to complete it. This doesn’t sound too bad until you find out that there is only one section of one class being offered for that minor each semester. So that class needs to be scheduled, no questions about it.
For some majors too, there is only one section of a class offered and that class is required for your major. “Oh, that’s fantastic that you need to take that class next semester. Sorry, it’s happening at the same time as the other one section class that you also need to take next semester. Sucks.” That is how you sound, Scheduling. That is literally what happens, Scheduling. It sucks beyond belief.
Oh yeah, there’s also the fact that you are pretty much the equivalent to an early morning version of The Hunger Games. And guess what, the odds are hardly ever in our favor. We have to wake up for 6/7 A.M. just to sit at our computers and pray to whatever deity we choose to pray to just to hope that we can get into half the classes we need/want. That is what happens, every time. The younger you are, too, the more screwed over you are.
Scheduling, you really do suck. I’m sorry to say it, but it’s true. Now, if you don’t mind I have to get to deciding what makes more sense: being able to sleep until noon every day or have class until 9:30 half my week.
