To my sorority sisters across the country,
I don't know you. Most of us haven't met and maybe will never meet. But even so, we have so much in common, and I know that you share the same values as I do because we joined the same organization. Sororities are special in the sense that no matter what college, no matter what state, no matter the size, each chapter shares the same values and ritual. The very same ritual practiced by the brave young women who created our sorority over 100 years ago. There's something very special in knowing that hundreds of women have memorized the same songs as you, know the in's and out's of the same ceremonies, and were all initiated in the same way as you.
I know that we share the same values as well. I know that even though I don't know you personally, I know that you and I value the same things in life. I would stand up for you in almost any situation, because I know you are like me in some ways. As cliche as it sounds, the bond we share as sisters is so meaningful because of how the sorority has impacted all of our lives.
One of the most meaningful experiences I've had as a sorority woman is getting to meet some of you at conventions and conferences, hearing about your experiences, and comparing them to my own. I was surprised to know how similar our chapters are run, although I guess I shouldn't have been. I was surprised at the different ways we implement the non-ritual aspects of our sorority, like philanthropy events. We are so alike in many ways, but unique as well. But mostly, I was encouraged by how proud we all are to be in our sisterhood. Getting in that space with all of you really strengthened my bond to our beloved sorority, and to all of you.
So whether you're in Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, Michigan, Colorado, or California, know that I'm proud to be your sister.
