An Open Letter To "My Person"

Dear "My Person",

Isn't it crazy that I can call you that? Where do I even begin? You're my go-to, my ride or die, the peanut butter to my jelly, the Blair to my Serena, the Cristina to my Meredith. Okay, I kind of got carried away there... You're not just my best friend, you're my soul sister.

Marisa Sims. It feels like just yesterday. It was the beginning of freshman year, and we were both dealing with the heartache of being cut from the soccer team at our school. I never thought I would be the same again after going through that, but you somehow made it okay. It was an instant bond. I know it sounds like a cliche... but from the moment I met you, I knew we would be friends for life. We had so much in common, and I remember thinking how crazy that was. I was lucky enough to make my first friend at college, and know instantly that you weren't just going to be any ordinary friend. I knew you were different.

My mom always told me that I would have plenty of friends or even best friends, but that one day I would find a friendship that would... just click. You understand me, and I understand you on a whole other level.

We are basically the same person, so of course we have our moments: GOOD AND BAD. We laugh about the same stupid things, stress out about life, and even obsess over the same things. (Okay...I admit I may be a tad bit more obsessed with Taylor Swift, but still.) You're the only person I know aside from my family that can listen to me talk about her 24/7, and NOT get annoyed. We often find ourselves sitting in our dorm room laughing until we almost pee for no particular reason at all. Yes... we're weird like that. We cry about how much schoolwork we have, but then proceed to binge-watch another show on Netflix. "RBF: Resting Bitch Face" is unavoidable, we were just born with it. We definitely butt heads sometimes, but like I said, you're my sister and that's completely normal. We think alike... stubborn beyond words. Hate you sometimes, but I will love you always.

You are always there when I just need someone to listen to my rants. You're the first person I go to for everything, when I have amazing news or when I just need someone to cry to. You're just always there. Sure, we are getting older, and college is slowly coming to an end. (Umm when did we become juniors???) I know that we could be on other sides of the world (You're leaving me & our closet for Thailand, and I'm crying), and we would still be attached at the hip. That's just how it will always be, no doubt about it. Life is going to throw some curve balls at us for sure, it's inevitable. But, I am positive about one thing. I couldn't imagine doing life without you.

I can see it now. I'll be standing right next to you at your wedding :') We will have kids that will be best friends. This friendship is going to age with us in the best way, and I am beyond excited for that. I just can't wait for what the future holds, and I can't wait to annoy you for an eternity.

I hate to break it to you, but... you're pretty much stuck with me forever!

Love,

Annie

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
