Thank You For Everything!

An Open Letter To My Martin Mentors
Alexis Robinson

I am a part of the Martin Scholarship program at Messiah College. With that being said, I have some pretty awesome people in my life that have been helping me get through my first semester of college. These three special individuals are what we call our "Martin mentors". We have two female mentors, Brittany and Olivia, and one male mentor, Nate. I think that I speak for all of my Martin family when I say that our mentors are definitely the best! I'm not just saying this to earn brownie points! They are truly some of the greatest people on this planet. Here is what I want to say to them......

Brittany and Olivia,

Thank you! Thank you so much for always being there to support your eleven female mentees.....and one boy (whom we all love dearly!). You are always there to give us amazing advice on all topics including helpful study habits and boy troubles. Without you two in my life, I would not be able to carry on hard conversations about our society and would certainly not be able to retain my own sanity! You two are also always there to help my with anything I need. For instance, I asked one of you if I could borrow your lipstick for the regimental ball that I was going to this weekend. You were more than happy to lend it to me and was very quick to respond. To me, it's the little things like that that make my life so much brighter. So thank you to the both of you! I love you girls so much! Please never change!

Nate,

I don't even know where to start with you........bro, you're amazing. Every word that comes out of your mouth is sheer wisdom from God above! Being that you are my "main mentor", I have to meet with you at least three times per semester (not that that has to be it or anything!). Whenever I feel like life has got me down, I know that you are always one text message away and for that, I couldn't thank you enough! We have the same taste in music (which is pretty amazing by the way), you offered to teach me how to ballroom dance (which still needs to be a thing soon!), taught me how to cook (well, sort of), and are completely open with talking about girl issues such as boys and anything to do with shopping (mostly dress shopping though). It is sooooo incredibly hard to find a guy who will willingly talk about that stuff with me. I am so extremely blessed to have you as a mentor. I can't wait to see what God has planned for you in the near future (a.k.a- get a job at Messiah!). Love you, bro. Thank you for everything!

To all of my wonderful mentors, God is going to do some amazing things in your lives! For the conversations we have already had to all of the beautiful friendships that we have made just in our first semester, I am certain that we will make many amazing new memories together throughout the school year! I can't wait to see what God has in store. Always remember to stay true to yourselves and to be the amazing people that God made you!

Love,

Your Overly Sentimental Mentee

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
