An Open Letter To My Best Friend — Le Li

Four months ago, you went on your study abroad trip to Strasbourg alone and I watched you leave. Suddenly, I started to cry uncontrollably.

I am a person who hardly cries and you are certainly not my longest friend. Even though we have only known each other for six months, I feel like I have known you for a lifetime.

I was always wondering why I didn’t have a very close girlfriend who could do makeup for me or share all of my secrets. I am so grateful that I could get to know you at Centre and have you as my best friend.

As the only child in my family, I always feel lonely that there is no one who I can find support from. However, when you appeared in my life, everything changed.

Thank you for staying up late until 1:00 a.m. with me when I studied for my GIS lab. Thank you for being patient and listening to me all of the time, even you are on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Thank you for saving my life in weird times such as break ups or after fighting with my parents. Thank you for trusting me all of the time and for sharing your super secret family and relationship things with me. Thank you for writing some sweet words from my favorite books on my 18th birthday party. Thank you for the Orange Leaf dates that you made. You never failed to amaze me.

Thank you for making me feel hopeful each day by simply looking at you smile. Thank you for being my motivation to study when I see you devote all of your passion to your philosophy papers. Thank you for helping me with my makeup during rush or before parties and for buying chicken tenders for me. Thank you for giving me the courage to be a better person because you are such a wonderful human being and I want to be someone just like you.

Thank you for recommending me weird readings that we can laugh at together. Thank you for being the person who I can always talk about life with, regardless of jet lag and distance. Thank you for being a life-mentor of mine and for supporting me in chasing my dream, just like you do. Thank you for being who you are. There are so many people coming into and leaving my life, but I know that you won’t.

You will be always there as a best friend.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
