An Interview With Josh Gracin: Life After 'American Idol'
Sounds Like Nashville

The music industry is full of con-artists and fake individuals with no drive or purpose of why they do what they do. Josh Gracin is the complete opposite. It is artists like Gracin that truly make this industry into what it is.

After taking a look into Gracin's life, I realized that he has a lot of experience in places that one would never expect to carry lessons into the music industry with. After serving in the military, Josh decided to follow his dream, which is where it all began. I was able to interview Gracin about his life and current EP "Nothin Like Us" Part 1 and here is what he had to say...

What has being in the Marine Corps taught you that you've been able to use in the music industry?

To keep pushing no matter what, even when the odds seem against you. Have confidence in yourself and your ability to make things happen even when it seems to far out of reach!

What is your greatest memory from being an American Idol finalist?

The whole experience. I learned so much about the business and what it takes to continue doing what you love.

What can we expect out of the new EP?

Familiarity with today's sound but true to what country music is and always will be: the story. That's why, to me, country music is the best genre for everyday life.

What was the inspiration behind the new EP?

My overall place in life! I'm just happy to have found someone who makes me strive to be the best version of myself possible, someone who supports me no matter how hard life gets. My wife keeps me believing in all possibilities.

What sets you apart as an artist in this crazy industry?

I plead the 5th. In the spirit of supporting all struggling and successful artists in the industry.

Where do you see your career five years from now?

As far as God deems worthy. I've already been given so many opportunities. I feel blessed to continue having opportunities, even after my many mistakes.

Who is your inspiration as an artist?

Everyday life! We truly as people have been given a gift. No matter how good or bad life gets, all of us have a purpose. There are no accidents, only reasons.

Looking back, would you have pictured yourself where you are now?

The desire to be further along, doing bigger things is a huge driving force right now for me. That said, if it all goes away and my most successful days are behind me, I will consider my dream accomplished.

What advice would you give to someone trying to live out their dream in the industry?

Surround yourself with good people, people who will defend you but stand up to you when you start to lose focus and humility.

Is there anything that you want your fans to know about you that they don’t already?

As long as they still want to listen, come to the shows and I'll keep pushing forward. They are the reason I've been able to live my dream.

As you can see, people who truly love this industry still exist. It is artist's like Gracin that give singers and songwriters hope for a future in an industry with absolutely no promise. Here's to you Josh Gracin... and thank you for your service!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
