You don’t realize Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.
-Tom Keller
Experience plays an essential role in our lives. Personally, I have witnessed a significant experience that helped me throughout my life when making decisions and doing other things. Last year, on November 15th,2016, I experienced a miracle that gave me a testimony and taught me about self-care.
It was on a beautiful Tuesday. I was entirely off, meaning I did not have to go to work nor school. After sleeping until 10 AM, I woke up not even wanting to leave my bed. It was as if something was holding me back discouraging me from doing anything. I decided to take a shower and head downstairs to start doing my homework at the dining table. As I was doing my homework, I felt a sudden hunger for some white rice with chicken and vegetables. Immediately after this thought, the phone rang, and it was my auntie calling to check on me. I told her about my ideas to cook, and she told me to be careful.
I went to the kitchen; and got all my utensils, such as a pot to put on the stove, along with some oil to cook the chicken with vegetables. While waiting for the oil to get hot, I went to use the bathroom, then returned to the kitchen to start frying the chicken. As soon as I was about to put the chicken in the oil; a bit of water drop into the pot, and it caught on fire. Since I have never experienced this situation before, I picked up the container now on fire and put it under water, hoping that it would stop burning. However, my body caught on fire instead, and as a result, I got burned. All I remembered saying “Oh my God! Jesus Christ” and like magic, the explosion of fire blew away. I was shocked, ran upstairs to my room, and started praising His Holy Name.
After I was done praising and crying, I went back downstairs to get my phone and called 911 to escort me to the Emergency Room at University Hospital in Sunrise, FL. When the paramedics came, they called the cops to check the house because they thought it was still on fire. After looking thoroughly, the police reported that the house was excellent. They then gave me first aid and took me to the hospital. The doctor and nurses were shocked and did not know how I survived, my thoughts were “only God knows how.” They gave me treatment and prescription, and later I got discharged from the hospital. Since that day, I started knowing how big of a miracle knowing the names God and Jesus Christ can have in our lives once we have faith.
I would never say that God doesn’t exist because of experienced His presence that afternoon when I was in the position of a near-death experience. I feel as if He was trying to say His intervention in my life is not over. I highly encourage others to be aware of their surroundings and to be careful while they’re cooking. I will always have that moment replaying in my mind every time I am preparing. That experience is a miracle to me, and I also consider it my most significant testimony.
