It’s a new season, and The Boss is back. America’s Next Top Model has been running on American TV for 24 seasons now and Tyra Banks, the show’s long-time host, has promised a season that will change the modeling industry forever.
Shows like this have never really sparked my interest. Growing up I was way more into Survivor and The Amazing Race, the action shows, rather than in Keeping Up With the Kardashians or Real Housewives. These all-female drama-filled reality shows seemed superficial to me. But for some reason, after seeing an advertisement come up on my computer for ANTM, I put on the first episode. All I can say is that I was thoroughly impressed.
The biggest news for this new season is that Tyra has decided to rid of the previous age limit of contestants on the show, and so far the change has been noticed. My current favorite contestant, Erin (of course), is a 42-year old mother of four and grandmother.
When Tyra describes what it means to be “next level fierce”, Erin embodies every part of that in both her beauty and her personality. But age is not the only change in this years season. As described by producers, Season 24 is preparing to wow viewers and introduce them to the future of the modeling industry.
“This time around beauty knows no age, no size, and no boundaries”. The diverse group of women who are taking on the ANTM stage have been fierce from day one. From a Muslim woman and an alopecia sufferer, to a grandmother and a 20-year old Trump supporter, plus-size models and every color of women, this season is the start of something truly incredible.
Not only is Tyra Banks a leading force in this movement of beauty through individuality, but plus size supermodel Ashley Graham is also taking charge and helping the women through this journey.
So if you have any interest at all in the women's movement, changes in the modeling industry, or getting rid of society's rigidly held beauty standards, tune in Tuesday night's at 8 pm. Beauty has no boundaries. Thank god someone is finally making that known.
