As a nation, things need to change. We are supposed to be one unified front, standing against adversity. But we create adversity within our ranks.
When conflicts arise, we do not band together or try and understand our fellow Americans opinions. Instead, we banter and have harsh Twitter fights that end in “kill yourself” or “go back to where you came from.” This can’t be the way that we discuss matters of importance or else we will never progress.
We see these types of things on social media every day. Whether coming from the right or left side or a completely unrelated topic. When an issue such as kneeling for the flag to make a statement against the oppression of minorities comes up, you get two completely different arguments.
And it’s okay to have different opinions, but instead of throwing around rude insults and harsh language, we need to have intellectual conversations and rationalize our points of view in a way that is understandable to all (looking at you Mr. President). That way we can all educate each other instead of attack each other for having opposing opinions.
To “Make America Great Again,” we must start at the very base. We must start communicating better. We can do this by stopping and thinking about what we say before we say it. Follow your mom’s advice of, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” Just stop being so horribly awful to your fellow Americans, and listen to what they have to say, maybe we’ll get somewhere then.
