PSA ~~ Before I even start writing this article I want it to be know that I am not trying to cause an outcry nor am I insulting the American people nor am I saying that the United States has a perfect form of government, I am just trying to put things into perspective. Obviously each country has it's own personal problems with forms of governments, but obviously some are just worse than others. So no, I am not saying that the United States government does not have flaws, nor am I saying it is completely flawed, so please do not come at me. I have the utmost respect to the United States government and to the United States, so that is the end of that. ~~
Whenever you have been hurt badly, wether emotionally or physically, you think that that pain is the worst thing imaginable, but all it takes for that idea to be falsified it for a worse pain to come your way. As people, we have a very hard time distinguishing "the worst" something can get, so we simply label something like the worst until something new comes along and pushes that scale further. Seemingly, that is what is happening with people's opinion on the voting system, the government, and the country as a whole.
For many people, this is the worst political situation America has been in during its modern history. A lot of people talk about how although they didn't agree with many of the policies made with presidents following Jimmy Carter, that they can still somewhat understand the logic or respect these decisions. But these past couple years seem to have removed this idea for people, causing many people to believe that this is the downfall or the apocalypse of American politics. I have heard people even go as far to say that this is the worst political climate ever. When I asked him if he simply meant in America's history or in the world, he vigorously said "worldwide."
Now America has always had a long tradition of being pretty self-centered, and wether I think this makes sense is a story for another time, but it is common for citizens to think of it as the center of the world. This is especially clear when much of elementary, middle and high school history curriculum solely focuses on America and very little on other countries. I am bringing this up because much like how people can't understand the "worst pain" until they experienced or seen something worse, this is much like people's perspectives on their own countries political climate.
What is clear is that there are so many countries that have political climates so much worse than that of the United States, and if you ask people from those countries how the United States is doing many of them still dream that their country could be as democratic as America. Some countries have rigged elections, very little personal freedoms, corruption and so much more plaguing their day to day life. So what is clear to me is that yes, the US is having a definite change in their political climate, but just look at so many other countries, and you will realize that on the spectrum of things, you are so lucky to have the political system you have, flaws and all.
