Sometimes, we take things for granted. It's just human nature and as human beings, it's what we do. Some things, however, should never be taken for anything less than they are.
Freedom should never be taken for granted. As much as it seems right to sit there and complain about how freedom isn't free, it's just not true. Sure, our system has flaws. Most things do. Nothing is perfect. But it's also ironic how a law or code becomes "unfair" or "ruins" our freedom when it is broken and the lawbreaker has to pay the price.
Take a step back and look at all the things that make America great. Do not tell me that when you see a bald eagle you don't get the chills. Or that the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill isn't one of the greatest smells of summer. Or that American football isn't the most exciting time of the year. Or that hearing our national anthem echo through a stadium, arena, or any sporting complex doesn't fill your body up with such pride over the fact that this is our country and we have rights that most people in other countries do not because of the brave individuals that fought for us.
Yes, some things are controversial when it comes to limiting our rights around certain laws. But let me point something out to you. These laws are protecting us from terrorists and from unpatriotic Americans that simply don't even deserve to be a U.S. citizen. There are bad people out there that are willing to do bad things. People fought, bled and died so that we can have the freedoms we have. The least you can do is stand and remove your hat for a solid 2 minutes while we honor them and our great country.
If you think America isn't one of, if not the, greatest countries on this planet, then you need a major reality check. There obviously needs to be a limit on how much freedom the people can have otherwise freedom would be taken advantage of. However, the people have enough rights to keep our government in check. We have a constitution that will protect us and government will never be able to change that.
So next time you see a bald eagle, smile. Next time you smell a barbecue, let your mouth water. Next time you turn on the football game, cheer for your team. And next time you hear the Star Spangled Banner, stand up, remove your hat, and show respect for this beautiful country we call home.
