Social media has been packed full of the Super Bowl this week, from disappointed tweets about the Falcon’s loss to Lady Gaga’s halftime performance. I have never really been a fan of Lady Gaga. Nothing against her, I am just not a huge fan of her type of music or dresses made of meat. However, one thing that really stood out to me about the Super Bowl was the negative feedback that Lady Gaga received via social media after her halftime performance on Sunday. While some of this feedback was based on her body image, which is a whole different story, the majority of it was focused on her political views, or lack thereof. Lady Gaga was repetitively bashed by America for not speaking out about Trump’s presidency when she had the “opportunity” to do so.
As a face for the LBGT and democratic communities, many expected Gaga to use her Super Bowl performance as a platform for her to express her negative feelings towards our newly elected president, Donald Trump. When she failed to do so, she was publicly bashed for it. People expressed their anger through tweets, many questioned her morals and others went as far as calling her a Fascist. My question is why? Why are we bashing someone who had every opportunity to create an even bigger division among the American people, but didn’t? I am a strong believer in expressing your beliefs, however, I do not believe in expressing them during a nationwide football game. The Super Bowl is basically a holiday in our country, why are we so set on ruining that too? We should be praising Lady Gaga’s maturity as well as her performance because as far as I’m concerned she killed it! It’s about time that we stop hating each other, and the ones who are taking every step to try and bring our country back together.
Xoxo,
