It is impossible to deny the significance of streaming services in 2016. With many dropping cable entirely in exchange for entertainment at your leisure, it can be hard to decide which website is the best choice for you. Although they might seem similar on the surface, Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix actually offer very different things for very different types of viewers. Rest assured that one of these streaming sites will cater to your wants, needs, and everything in between.
Amazon Prime.
Amazon Prime is, indeed, a prime streaming service (hence the name) and one you should definitely consider if you are looking for exclusive award-winning content and the most recent movies. Something that sets apart Amazon from Netflix is the ability to rent movies (for a slightly additional charge) or stream new movies not found on any other streaming services, such as: "Interstellar," "Ex Machina," or "Selma." Amazon has won many Emmys in the past few years for their original shows like "Transparent," and most recently, "Mozart in the Jungle." Amazon also has absolute rights to past HBO shows and new shows, and movies from Woody Allen and The New Yorker. A subscription costs $99 for one year, which equates to $8.25 a month. College students can get a subscription for $49 a year, which is only $4.08 a month (cheaper than both Hulu and Netflix). Subscriptions also come with free two-day shipping for products bought on www.amazon.com.
Hulu.
Hulu is a great option for catching up on shows that are currently on air. The only downside is that a standard subscription includes commercial breaks, but they have recently added an upgrade to remove ads for an additional $4 per month on top of the standard fee. Hulu is also the only streaming site with the rights to "Seinfeld," as well as an extensive selection of films from the Criterion Collection (perfect for film History students or any film aficionado). They have also recently started to produce Hulu Originals, featuring new original shows from Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers, Mindy Kaling, and J.J. Abrams. Subscriptions start at $7.99 a month for a limited commercial plan and increase to $11.99 a month for a no-commercial plan.
