I Am Proud Of My Ability To Work For What I Want

I want to be somebody that nobody thought I could be.

I Am Proud Of My Ability To Work For What I Want
Kayla Miller

Not everyone is born with the ability to talk to others openly and ask/work for what they want.

But why not?

Why can’t we all just stand up and be honest? Why does it take extra effort to work up the courage to tell someone we like them or that we want to go out with them? And even worse, why is it hard for us to address our concerns or changes that need to be made in order for us to succeed as a person and in life?

I feel like I got over this hump at a young age, which is honestly quite the blessing.

I might brag about my accomplishments for a slight second here and there, but it’s only because I know that I, MYSELF, earned them and fought for these things. I am proud of myself and I am proud to talk about what I can do because I know exactly how much work I put in to get there.

Someone said to me recently, “You make me want to get off my couch and change the world.”

Well, thank you. Soooooo, get up and do it.

It’s not that hard to have a job in college or to reach out and find other opportunities that will get you where you want to be.

The first door that opens for you may not be exactly what you’re wanting, but if that door leads to a different door that IS where you’re wanting to be, then you’ll never find it unless you give that first one a shot.

Work for your success and do not make me tell you twice that sitting around and waiting for accomplishments to fall into your lap will get you nowhere. Don’t even tempt me on that one because it’s TOO TRUE TO FIGHT.

Sure, you may need a degree to get you to your end goal, but you can start to work towards that while you’re in college as well.

I, for example, would love to travel the world and write someday and I’m already doing just that, but at a lower level and rate than I would like. I have already been to 49 states and 5 countries, and I’m only 19 years old.

I also have already had 30+ articles published in my name at the young age of 19 and was recently presented with the opportunity to get more involved with Odyssey as well.

On top of Odyssey, I am also a manager at my job and babysit 10 hours a week, all on top of being a full-time college student and being in Greek life.

Oh, and I just ran for an exec. position in my house as well...so you could say I don’t have a problem with multitasking and organizing my time.

The difference between people who don’t work for success and the people that do is simple. There is a drive that one must possess in order to succeed. You have to want it. You have to work for it. And you HAVE to believe that you can get there.

It’s quite the simple concept actually, so if you’re looking for a little push or shove to get your life together and moving... here it is. Go for it. Get out there. Live your life, but know that you can’t ALWAYS be partying, binge-watching Netflix, and taking naps. You’ve got to get up and make the first move.

Here’s one last hint, it’s not fun to not be successful. So let that contribute/set fire to the drive you’re looking for in order to get started.

Do you want to be at the same place you’re at now in 10 years? If you answered yes, then depending on where you’re at right now, you could call that either good or bad. And if you answered no, then do what I said earlier: get up and go for it while you still can.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
