So I was scrolling through Instagram for my daily search of news and media when I come across a video of Shawn Mendes. I usually watch Instagram videos due to them usually being about something very important such as a Cop's active duty to protect, racism in the eye of the wicked, and people who are just downright dumb. These usually give me a source of something to write about or something to ponder upon, but this week I couldn't think of anything until I come across this video...
In this video, Shawn Mendes is at one of the panels he does for fans. So fans are asking questions and asking for advice and such and then we come across this girl. Presumably, a teenager, speaking the problem she was having. But she explained that she was a bisexual female and hadn't told many people, the problem is her parents. So she asked Shawn if he could say something to tell her parents. Shawn responds by saying that her parents will love her no matter how she says it when she says it, the face she makes when she says it, etc. He continues by saying that anything he says will not mean anything to them compared to if the female told her parents herself. He finishes off his advice by saying that he would do it if he thinks that would be the better choice in his mind.
Now the problem doesn't lie in what he said. It lies in the caption. One of the replies to the video (on twitter assumingly) was "I don't give a fuck what anyone says this was so fucking heartbreaking to watch, he's such an asshole sorry, not really". This was really crazy to me, as before the video started, I expected him to say something kind of rude, but he didn't. He gave probably the best advice a celebrity, or ANYONE really could've possibly given. I agree wholeheartedly with his response too, but I feel like sometimes when things happen like this, I'm among the few people that agree with a genuinely good celebrity. But with that being said, I don't believe this is bad advice, honestly.
