Even though it is hard to believe, the warm weather will sneak back up on us before we know it. Although spring seems years away, right now, spring break is only a few weeks away. It seems that in college, spring break is hyped up and everyone is ready to blow big bucks on an island getaway with a huge group of friends. However, the college budget becomes a reality for many of us and the option of a four star resort on a tropical island seems to slip between the cracks.
Fortunately, there are other options for spring break that may be easier on one’s wallet for those of us who are not trying to full-out splurge this spring break.
Here is a list of some spring break options I came up with for those of us who are looking to go somewhere, even if it is just for a few days!
One of South Carolina’s many beaches.
We are fortunate to live in a state that borders the coast and has some beautiful beaches that are a short drive away. From Charleston and Hilton Head to Kiawah, the list of South Carolina beaches is endless. Though the weather might not be super warm come spring break, with places like Charleston, there are cute shops, great restaurants, and if the sun is out, you never know how much the temperature might spike. South Carolina beaches are beautiful regardless of the weather, and when you are near a body of water, boats are always an option.
The Carolina mountains.
Though most people go into the idea of spring break with a tropical mindset, the mountains provide a different kind of scenic vacation that is just as beautiful. The Carolina mountains contain, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful views you could ask for, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Appalachian Mountains. Whether you rent a house for a few nights with some friends or just take a hike one day, the views are worthwhile and it doesn’t hurt to get some exercise in while you’re doing it.
Asheville, North Carolina.
Asheville is a beautiful little town with plenty to do for a weekend trip. Home to the beautiful Biltmore Estate, Asheville is a pretty place to visit at all seasons during the year. There is great food, entertainment and nightlife in Asheville, so no matter what time of the day you visit, there is always something to do. Again, if you are in the nearby North or South Carolina area, Asheville can be a convenient one day trip for you and friends.
Mission trip.
Whether you are involved with service groups at the University of South Carolina, or back in your home town, mission trips are always a great way to spend your week helping others. Mission trips could take volunteers across the globe, or even into another state that is in need of some community service. Regardless, community service is always an option and puts a week off from school to good, purposeful use. Not to mention, if you decide to participate in a service club mission trip at the University, it is a great way to meet new people and get involved, locally, on campus.
These are just a small number of alternate options of how you could spend your spring break. There is definitely no right or wrong way to spend a week off school, but how you chose to enjoy yourself is up to you and what you make of it!
