“The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
-Matthew 28:5-10
Often times, we forget the reason for the season and get caught up in gift giving and days off from school. But it is important not to forget Christ’s Resurrection, as it is the reason we celebrate Easter. Not the Easter Bunny coming to give us chocolates and goodies, but rather Jesus Christ dying to save our sins and then rising from the dead on the third day.
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
-1 Peter 2:24
It’s okay to still celebrate the tradition of the Easter Bunny coming through buying small gifts for your loved ones, but we must remember the importance of the holiday and not idolize the Easter Bunny.
Arguably one of the most important seasons for the Christian faith, it is critical to be thankful for all that our Savior did for us. And when things get dark, we can keep in mind that Jesus has been through the darkest of the dark and that He will lead us back to the light.
During the six-weeks of reflection in Lent, our minds and hearts have had time to get ready for Easter Sunday.
For me, personally, I look forward to the fun pastels and bright colors exhibited on this holiday, as they are my favorite parts of the Easter traditions.
Whatever the season means for you, may your spring bring lots of pep in your step and be full of beautiful flowers.
Rejoice and be glad, for Christ has risen!
