What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

What do you want to be when you grow up? I realized that on my biographies on websites, I change what my future plans are almost every month. It’s okay not to know what you want to be. You seriously have your entire life ahead of you.

Here is a list of things I have wanted to be throughout my life.

1. A lifeguard.

In first grade, we had to draw what we wanted to be when we grew up. I had no idea that being a lifeguard was not a profession and that in a few years I could be one. I am now a certified lifeguard but I have yet to use that certification.

2. A pediatrician.

In second grade, I had a crush on my doctor. Dr. Winker was the most handsome doctor in my small town, and he always gave me Reese's Cups at my checkups. I wanted to be just like him. I wrote him a story about how I want to be just like him and gave it to him when his mother passed away. Little did I know I would soon hate all science classes. And children.

3. A surgeon.

When "Grey's Anatomy" first aired, I was hooked. I loved all the drama and all of the medical terminology. I wanted to be a surgeon and nothing could stop me. Except high school chemistry. And biology. And the blood and guts.

4. A rock star.

In fourth grade, I was going to be a lead singer for my rock band, Black Roses. I was really into Good Charlotte when I was 9 years old. I thought I was an amazing singer, but it turns out I’m actually tone deaf.

5. An interior decorator.

My mom is an HGTV fanatic, and naturally, so am I. When I was 10 years old, my mom got me the "Trading Spaces" doll house. Tell me that’s not the coolest gift ever? I was destined to become an interior decorator.

6. A teacher.

My middle school and high school was a K-12 charter school, so the teachers were only there because they really cared about teaching, not because of the money. My English teachers showed me that I really love to learn. It changed my life. From that point on, I wanted to change other middle schoolers and high schoolers and help them find their spark. Until I realized I would be making less than $30,000 a year, and I’m not even studying at a school that cheap.

7. A psychologist.

I just really like psychology, okay? I don’t even know why I wanted to be this.

8. A back-up dancer.

I could be Hannah Montana’s backup dancer, no problem. Chris Brown’s? Yeah sure. Ciara? Yes! Actually, no. Not at all.

9. A web designer.

I had a MySpace. I know how to code. Just kidding, I only know how to copy and paste.

10. An after-school program director.

This is actually something I would love to do, but I don’t think I could be around children for that long. I mean, I don’t even want children of my own.

11. A lawyer.

Law and Order SVU has prepared me for everything I need to know about court. I love arguing so I think I’d be pretty amazing. I mean, if Elle Woods could be one, why not me?

12. A professor.

My current goal is to become a professor for communication. I love to teach, and I love public speaking, but I don’t want to deal with disciplining. College-level teaching seems like something I would want to do, but hey, it may change next week.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
