Reputation: The general opinion or estimate of a person's character or other qualities; the relative esteem in which a person or thing is held.

I hate reputations.

Once a reputation forms, it seems that you can't get rid of it until you move on from that chapter of your life and everyone from your past either forgets about you or forgets about who you were.

I hate that you have to be conscious of everything you say and every decision you make because someone is always watching you, waiting for you to screw up, waiting to target you, and waiting to give you a label that you may or may not agree with.

I hate reputations because I feel trapped. Even if I don't mind the reputation I have, I feel as if I can never change and become a new person as long as my reputation is lingering in the background, waiting to claim hold on the person I’m trying to become. That was until I heard Taylor Swift's new song, "Look What You Made Me Do."

Taylor Swift is the definition of what having a reputation means. She's known as the golden girl who successfully crossed over from country music to pop music. She has a reputation of throwing over-the-top parties and baking cookies with her "squad," which includes supermodels like Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, Olympic gold-medalist Serena Williams, Disney darling Selena Gomez, along with your favorite "Gossip Girl," Blake Lively, along with other famous A-listers. She especially came to the media's attention when Kanye West infamously interrupted her acceptance speech for winning "Best Female Video" for "You Belong With Me" during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and argued that Beyoncé deserved the award more. Taylor Swift might be one of the most successful artists of all time, but her reputation has defined who she is and how people view her since she debuted.

Like everything else Taylor Swift does in her life, the world went mad when she wiped her social media accounts and website clean, leaving no trace of the old Taylor Swift. It's been three years since she released her last album, "1989," and she has a habit of releasing a new album every two years, so everyone automatically assumed that she was about to release new music. However, I don't think anyone expected her to go to such dramatic measures by literally wiping out her old life and who she was and starting with a clean slate.

Whether you're obsessed with her or can't stand her, Taylor Swift is an inspiration. Whether you think she's the queen of music or think she's a conceited bitch who constantly plays the victim, Taylor Swift is an inspiration.

She is proof that you don't have to live in the shadows of what other people think about you. She is proof that you can be whoever you want to be no matter what anyone thinks of you and no matter what your reputation might be. Taylor Swift is an example of someone who doesn't give a shit about what anyone thinks, even if their opinion of her is broadcasted worldwide. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian think her song is pathetic; Taylor Swift doesn't care, and the rest of the world must not care either because her music video has already amassed over 80 million views. Dozens of comments say that she is the bully; she doesn't care. People think she's still playing the victim; she doesn't care because she's going to do whatever the hell she wants whether people like it or not.

Some people despise Taylor Swift's new song, "Look What You Made Me Do," but I absolutely love it and I love who she's becoming. She knows that some people don't like her and she knows that some people hate her music, but she's just living her life and becoming the person she wants to be. Her song is a sarcastic jab at everyone who’s ever hated her, and it’s a declaration to the world that her reputation is dead and she’s becoming a new person.

Just when you thought your reputation would be everlasting and that you'd never be able to get rid of it, Taylor Swift releases a song that literally kills her old reputation; she wiped her social media clean and deleted everything everyone ever knew about her. Just when you thought people would never forget who you once were, Taylor Swift creates a video featuring all of the characters she once was and gets rid of them all.

"I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now."

"Why?"

"Oh, cause she's dead!"

Hate on her all you want, Taylor Swift is talented beyond belief and she knows just how to piss off her haters and prove a point.

The point?

If you don't like your reputation or who people see you as, kill it and start with a clean slate, or just stop caring about what people think of you. If someone as successful and popular as Taylor Swift can't even please everyone, then what makes you think you can?

You can't please them all darling, so why try? Be bold. Be you. And do whatever the hell you want to do and be whoever the hell you want to be because you're going to piss someone off either way. You owe it to yourself to be the person YOU want to be. You owe it to yourself to be the person you’re meant to be.

So, Taylor Swift. Thank you for reminding me that I can kill my reputation and be who I want to be whether the world likes it or not.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
