An album that’s shaped my heart and soul into the being it’s become, I’d like to pay tribute to “Cleopatra” written, produced, sung, glorified and magnified by The Lumineers.

“Cleopatra” came out April of 2016 and has been a part of my everyday life since then! I mean it when I say this album shows everything from grace to heartache to beauty to love and hate. Give it a go, because you’re definitely going to find yourself falling in love with at least one song (or all 11). There’s a song for every mood, time, day or event and it’s definitely worth giving the time.

Here’s my take on “Cleopatra” by The Lumineers.

Track 1: "Sleep On The Floor."

This album does something absolutely incredible where each song fades in and fades out right into the next, and if you listen to it from beginning to end, they carry each other through the entire time. "Sleep On The Floor" is one of the most beautifully composed songs I’ve ever heard. If I had to describe it in a whole, all I could say was light or delicate; it’s simply just beautiful. Just as the songs carry out a story, this band has done a wonderful thing of carrying a story through the music videos made too. Sleep on the floor does an exceptional job building sounds and layering instruments.

Favorite lyric: "‘Cause if we don’t leave this town / We might never make it out."

Track 2: "Ophelia."

This song has had me wrapped in tight since day one! I can’t help but always feel happy and light and free when I hear this song; it’s absolutely impossible to skip because it draws me in that much. The piano that carries itself through the whole track is what makes the whole song wonderful, and the lyrics tied with that make me fall in love every time.

Favorite lyric: "Honey I love you, that’s all she wrote."

Track 3: "Cleopatra."

I think this track really describes how the whole album is. It goes from upbeat to down to up again and it still makes you feel every bit of love and heartache in one. Not only that, but the lyrics are some of the best I’ve ever heard and whether I’m biased or not, I feel so much love from this song you can literally hear the soul it pours out.

Favorite lyric: "And I left the footprints, the mud stained on the carpet / And it hardened like my heart did when you left town."

Track 4: "Gun Song."

"Gun Song" is so simply made and still makes you feel so much. I think one of the best things about this album is that lyric-wise, none of them are super long but they're still able to carry out the whole thing and create such depth and element with simplicity. This song carries out such a masterpiece for itself, I’m left in awe.

Favorite lyric: "Things I knew when I was young / Some were true and some were wrong."

Track 5: "Angela."

I literally feel chills every time I listen to this song, it’s like it’s impossible to avoid. I think out of everything, "Angela" tells such a story of loss and forgiveness and finally finding what it is that you want. This song is just so simple and beautiful and so worth listening to.

Favorite lyric: " Vacancy, hotel room, lost in me, lost in you / Angela, on my knees, I belong, I believe / Home at last."

Track 6: "In The Light."

This song is so catchy! While I feel myself swaying and tapping to every one of these songs, it’s absolutely irresistible with this track. The simplicity that the music is able to make throughout the whole piece and still give it such meaning is absolutely glorious. Wesly Schultz, the lead singer of the band, does a magnificent job making the entire 4-minute track sound so different and solely one.

Favorite lyric: "Hold me and don’t ever let this die."

Track 7: "Gale Song."

"Gale Song" was actually written for the second "Hunger Games" movie, "Catching Fire." However, it fits so well with the entire rest of the album that you absolutely never would’ve guessed. "Gale Song" carries out its own beauty in such a raw way, it’s beautifully heartbreaking.

Favorite lyric: "I couldn’t know what’s in your mind / But I saw the pictures, you’re looking fine / And there was a time when I stood in line / For love, for love, for love / But I let you go, oh."

Track 8: "Long Way From Home."

This song is just simple. And beautiful. And a well-written song. I feel like I need a new word other than 'simple' but all of these songs are just written so simply and so incredibly captivating that it’s hard to think of them any other way. There’s so little done to make it what it is but it’s still so incredible with the simplicity it has.

Favorite lyric: "You’re right next to me / But you’re a long way from home."

Track 9: "Sick In The Head."

I feel like I have to hold my breath when I listen to this song. "Sick In The Head" is written so lightly and so delicately, I’m so enwrapped into the whole piece of it because it carries out such a simple level of beauty.

Favorite lyric: "I will not be here forever dear / So let’s just make this count a lot in here."

Track 10: "My Eyes."

Toward the end once again, this song is so different than the rest that this album presents itself with and I’m still in awe. I will never get how each one of these songs can tell such a different story but tie together with each other so well. "My Eyes" is such a heavyily carried song and it brings tears to my eyes with the story it tells from beginning to end.

Favorite lyric: "But you couldn’t see how it ends / It’s all or nothing to you."

Track 11: "Patience."

Closing off the album, this song is absolutely beyond words. This song has no words and still leaves me in such serenity and peace that it’s so surreal. It builds and builds and builds and carries you through seven different dimensions. I feel absolutely everything I do in this one song and there’s really nothing more I could ask for. It builds and then it’s just gone and over with. Just as the album goes, I’m left speechless.

And just like that, we're at the end of another exceptionally well-written album that leaves me absolutely speechless. Whether you're feeling happy or sad of any given day, "Cleopatra" gives out that story that takes you away from your current feelings and transfers you to a new dimension.

The Lumineers never fail to create anything but perfection and if I can ask you for anything, it's to give this album at least one (or eight) chances.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
