Imagine being 2,000 feet up in the air and having the feeling of weightlessness and the breath taken from you... Now you know what it's like to fly
I had the amazing opportunity to ride in the plane with my boyfriend and his instructor on one of his flying lessons. I rode down to Charlotte with his mom to pick him up like we have done over the summer going to them and now that he is back in school, we had to take a detour to his school. The other times we went to his lesson, we watched from below, seeing a cool world that his mom had never experienced before and I have only experienced commercially. We were so excited that we could go near the plane, let alone going inside for a ride, but it ended up where I really wanted to go up because how cool of a story would it be? I got a pair of headphones and was waiting when his mom decided she would take her first plane ride with her son controlling it. I would like to share my experience through my eyes.
This was the Cessna he was flying. As you can see from this side angle, we didn't exactly have the most room in the world. It was mostly trying to breathe in the hot air up there, even though you would think it would be nice and cool, well try doing that on a hot September day. This was my boyfriend and his instructor, before we actually took off he had to do a pre-flight check to make sure everything was sound. This includes things like temperature, weather related stuff, the dials that I don't have any idea what they do, and other stuff like that. His mom and I were just sitting there in the back wondering what the heck they were talking about. After the flight checks, we were ready to take off! And I can tell you, if you have ever ridden in a commerical flight before and you think this is nothing... you are in the wrong headspace. You can feel every bump and every movement coming from this small plane. I wondered whether I was going to fly out the window at every second. But I loved the feeling. The view was amazing!!! I mean when do many people get to see this? It was kind of a misty day but we could still see so much. They said on a good day, they can even see Uptown Charlotte from there. All the green life and farms out there and the little people getting farther away in their cars.
I personally wanted them to do some stunts like stalls where you pretty much start falling in the air then catch yourself but with his mom being a first time flyer, they thought it best to hold off on that. I mean, I am all for roller coasters and drops so it wouldn't have been a problem for me but I can understand.
All his friends and family and also mine were so happy seeing that we could go on an interactive ride and they could watch it on their computer screens. It was a blessing to be able to see what he loves doing so much. He talks about it all the time and I can see why. It is amazing up there, where nothing can touch you and everything feels calm, even when you are afraid you might fall.Even though it was hot and very windy, we had an amazing time flying high!If you ever get the chance, please don't be afraid, because these memories are the ones you want to tell people, not the ones you want to here other people doing.
