Put Yourself FIRST And Go Ahead And Change Your Major

This is about you, and nothing else.

I am the poster child for indecision and change of heart.

This was clear when I was trying to choose a college, and even more so when trying to pick a major. I made dozens of pros and cons lists, but still put off deciding which university I'd attend until the last day possible. Even then, I ended up switching to a college in Ireland after two years at Saint Mary's. Choosing a major was even more difficult. I've gone from wanting to be a musician, to a zoologist, to an aquatic obedience trainer, to a teacher, to a social worker, to a broadcaster, to a writer, to an editor, to an event planner. To be completely honest, my head is still jumbled from changing my mind so much.

It can make you feel completely out of control. Every time something changed in my life, I panicked. I'd think to myself, "Will I ever even be happy in one career or one place? What if I settle on something and then I end up despising it?" It was terrifying to think about. Regret is a frightening concept.

When I moved to Ireland for school, I was completely taken back by many of the peoples' laid back personalities and "just go with it" attitudes. It seems like here at home, we have this mentality of occupational success first. We are constantly on the move, working ourselves to death, and considering ourselves slackers or lazy if we are slow to figure things out. That isn't the right standpoint to take in my opinion.

People should come first. You should come first.

If you need to change your major or transfer schools to be happy, don't sweat it. If your new career choice doesn't make as much money as your previous one did, let it go. Your happiness is more important. You can still learn about other subject areas and allow yourself the ability to choose.

What is the worst that can happen when you change your major a few times? Your parents might get a little upset for a few days. You might need to tack on summer school or an extra year to catch up. You might even get teased for being indecisive. In the long run, though, you will come out on top. Something great can come of this change of heart.

You'll need to be brave and keep a level head. In the end, it comes down to being able to take things one step at a time. Follow your heart, take a deep breath, and go through the necessary processes to becoming more happy with your choices. Yes, this is college, and it is super important in many instances.

You are more important. Do what is best for yourself and watch how far you go.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
