See You Later, Aggieland

Six things we'll all miss this summer.

Dear Aggieland,

You are one unique place. You are a city that welcomes newcomers with tutus and chants and keeps students in class with the promise of earning coveted jewelry. You are a place that is very hard to describe, but as time has gone on, I've come to not only embrace your culture but to love it. You’ve brought me some great memories, and some even greater friends. Thank you for being my home, and I as leave you for the summer, I’m taking some time to count up some of my favorite things about you and what I’ll miss the most.

1. Kyle Field.

Kyle Field is quite a pretty sight to wake up to every morning, and walking by it each day always puts a smile on my face. All Aggies are pretty darn proud of our football field, and I think we will all miss seeing our much-loved stadium every day. Have we mentioned in the last few minutes that it’s the largest stadium in the SEC?

2. Fuego.

An Aggieland staple, Fuego will be dearly missed while we're gone for summer. If you live in College Station and say you haven’t had Fuego, you are either lying, or are completely oblivious to the happiness you are missing out on.

3. The acceptance.

Apparently, walking around most cities in an over-sized t-shirt and Birkenstocks is not an acceptable choice. But in Cstat, I’m loved no matter what ridiculous outfit I have on. Bring on the Chacos and jorts; no one is judging you here.

4. Sweet Eugene's.

I have some pretty great coffee places where I’m from, but none are quite as homey as Sweet Eugenes. The house of java is known as the perfect place to study, read, or catch up with friends; and to know this place is to love it. I’ll miss those big mismatched couches almost as much as I’ll miss my favorite iced-mochas.

5. The Traffic.

This is a complete lie, I will not miss the traffic even one bit.

6. The people.

Not only will I miss my closest group of friends whom I will be temporarily parting with, but I’ll miss seeing fellow Aggies everywhere I go. I’ll miss the friendly smiles from people I've never met, and the random “howdies,” and I’ll miss the sense of family that only comes from being in College Station.

College Station, you are a special place, and I'm more than happy to call you home. See you in a few months Aggieland.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
