17 Reasons I Thought Aggie Theta

On bid day last year, I was so excited because I knew I was running home to Kappa Alpha Theta. Aggie Theta is so much more than just a sorority, and I am so blessed to be a part of such a fabulous group of ladies. I honestly do not think it is possible to sum up all of the incredible attributes of Aggie Theta in one article, but here's my best attempt.

1. Service is the heart beat of our chapter.

Ask a Theta about Scotty's House or CASA and they will immediately light up. Our local and national philanthropies do incredible work for the children of the Brazos Valley who are in abusive or neglectful situations, and we are so proud to help fund their efforts to ensure the children are well taken care of and advocated for.

2. Thetas love each other so well.

From the simplest conversations to the deepest struggles, count on a Theta to love you intentionally and unconditionally. It does not matter who you are or where you have come from, you are so loved.

3. Thetas dance their way through everything.

From banner holding to date parties, Thetas embrace that life is a dance party.

4. No one will cheer for you louder than your Thista!

Going to grad school? Got a date? Woke up this morning and went to class in something other than your pajamas? We're celebrating.

5. Theta Bible Study.

I can't even explain how deeply impacted I was by Theta Bible Study this past year. I was so challenged to learn how to inductively study the Word, and it entirely changed my perspective on a book I thought I knew so well. Literally it was the highlight of my week.

6. Theta is the first Greek letter fraternity known among women!

Shout out to Bettie Locke for turning the frats srat by creating the first Greek letter fraternity known among women in 1870 at DePauw University.

7. We've got some fabulous Theta alumnae.

Including Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, Jenna Bush, and Tory Burch just to name a few.

8. Thetas lead all over campus

We've got Thistas serving in Class Councils, as class officers, in Student Government, as Muster Hosts, as Maroon Coats, within various FLOs, as Impact and Fish Camp Counselors, as Breakaway Volunteers, as PAID officers, and as MSC Abbott Leadership Conference delegates to name a few.

9. Theta dogs make their appearance at many of our events!

We're not complaining.

10. Even through heartbreak, Thetas stay strong and lead.

This summer we lost one our sweet sisters, Anna Wegener. Our chapter was crushed at her loss, but the members handled the pain gracefully and found ways for us to honor her family and her memory in ways that Anna would have wanted. Seeing how the ladies of our chapter leaned on each other during that time is one of my proudest moments as a Theta, and Anna has and will be honored beautifully.

11. Rock the CASA 5K is like Theta Christmas!

Picture this. 300-ish girls in tutus, sweatbands, and face paint waking up at the crack of dawn to set up for a 5K, having a dance party, serving and supporting the runners who woke up about the same time as us, and then raising $80,000 for CASA Voices for Children of the Brazos Valley. It's real. It happens. It's a party. It's Theta Rock the CASA 5K!

12. Thetas don't let their dreams just be dreams!

Theta encourages their members to go for whatever their wildest dream is and achieve it. I am so inspired by what my Thistas are doing at Texas A&M University, at graduate school, and in their professional careers. Truly we are surrounded by some incredibly driven women.

13. Catherine McFarland is my big. Enough said.

As her little, I can confidently say that there is no bigger blessing.

14. The Theta Moms take good care of us.

Ryan Gosling memes and make-your-own snack mix before finals? Check. Bundtinis to celebrate the end of the year? Check. Cookies because they love us? Check. We are so blessed.

15. Fajitas! For! The! Kids!

Thetafest, benefiting Scotty's House, takes place in November every year. We fire up the grill and feed hundreds of our friends and family members to help the kids who are brought to Scotty's House get thorough medical and legal examinations so that they will be well loved and advocated for after being removed from abusive or neglectful households. This past year we raised $54,000 for the kids, and we can't wait for next year!

16. Thetas pursue academic excellence!

And consistently have one of the highest average GPA's of all sororities at Texas A&M University!

17. Theta is for life

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
