A Letter To The Myself, Past & Future

If I could tell the younger me something it would be...

A Letter To The Myself, Past & Future
Alana Charboneau

Dear younger me,

You are brilliant, you are brave, you have potential and NOBODY should tell you otherwise.

You are capable enough to fully stand up for yourself to whoever tries to put you down; never forget that.

Don't listen to what those girls tell you about the way you look or the clothes you wear. They're just jealous. No need to dress to impress, they should love you regardless. You are who you were born to be and they can't change that. You don't even fully know who you are right now so they have no room to speak. If your "friends" can't accept you unconditionally, they don't belong hanging their arms across your shoulders; saying they are your friend.

What you do and what you say correlate with each other; whether you believe it or not.

Sometimes it shouldn't be about trying to constantly understand who you are, but more about accepting and embracing those amazing characteristics that you never thought you'd have.

People come and go, but what should stay with you is the importance of why they were in your life in the first place, not how they left. Them leaving was not because of you, it was because of something that neither you nor they had any control over. Nothing can really last forever, except maybe in space...

Don't make a situation bigger than it has to be. If it isn't important to you or won't be important to you in the long run; grow from it and move on. You will know when you're important and you will know when you're not. Make an effort to understand it all because a single person point of view in a two-person situation will never allow you to love the person as a whole; or allow themselves to continue loving you, even when we feel it most. Never regret living your life full of people that love you and make you feel loved. In the darkest of times, they will be your light. In the lightest times, they will laugh by your side. You don't need to be someone you're not. Show them your life through your eyes and they'll show you theirs.

There are far better things ahead than what we leave behind. There are days when you feel different than others, but sometimes it isn't something you can control; you can only try your very best.

Dear future me,

Smile and NEVER. STOP. SMILING.

Take photos and NEVER. STOP. TAKING. PHOTOS.

Write and NEVER. STOP. WRITING.

Love and NEVER. STOP. LOVING. The world will learn to love you in return.

Be yourself and NEVER. STOP. BEING. EXACTLY. YOU because YOU are EXTRAORDINARY and SO unique.

Love,

You.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
