A Letter To My High School Self, With All The Wisdom I Wish I'd Heard

If I could go back in the past, this is the advice I'd give myself.

Dear Kaelie,

Looking back at high school, it seems like it was such a long time ago. Really, I only graduated almost two years ago, but it feels like a lifetime. College is awesome, life is great, and I’m even married! Now, I’m not some genius who knows the secret to happiness. There are still so many things that I do not know. But, looking back at high school, I have a few pieces of advice to give you.

First of all, don’t care what others think. Life is too short to pretend to be someone you aren’t. If someone doesn’t like you for you, they aren’t the kind of person you want in your life. Wear whatever you want to wear. No one cares about what you are wearing. High school is not a fashion show so wear those sweatpants!!

It’s sad to say, but not everyone will be a true friend. Yes, you see the best in everyone, but that can come back to bite you. Be nice to everyone, but don’t have complete trust in everyone right away. It’s OK to guard your heart a little.

Don’t stress too much over the little things. Yes, school is important, but it’s OK if you don’t do every single assignment. Go out with your friends every once in a while, instead of staying up late to study. Those relationships are so much more important than getting a 100 on a test. Also, with stressing about the little things, it’s OK to mess up. Don’t worry about saying the wrong thing or giving the wrong answer when the teacher calls on you. Those things don’t matter in the long run.

High school is so hard. You’re going to school full time, working, managing a social life and somewhere in that time sleeping. It’s also a stressful time. Trying to figure out your future with college and what you want to do when you grow up is scary. Remember this: It will all work out in the end. There’s no need to worry as long as you are trying your best.

Last but not least, stand up for yourself. You are too nice to people. Yes, be nice to everyone, but don’t let them walk all over you. You are special, so don’t let people treat you any less than you are. Use your voice. You’re a smart kid, don’t forget that!

Love,

Kaelie

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
