So you've decided on a college and have taken steps in the right direction to start your classes this fall. Let me give you a few things to not forget about in the first few weeks of your freshman year.
The first is that even if you don't think you will cry when your mom walks away to go home after helping you unpack your belongings and set up your room, you will. Growing up, the only things I cried about were funerals, weddings, and the birth of babies. But, when my mom left me all alone in that room that day I cried. I wanted nothing more than to go home with her like any other time we would have gone somewhere. But, it gets better. You won't always miss your mom and you won't cry every day just because she left you all alone.
The second is to make friends outside of your roommate just in case things end up being really sticky between the two of you. You may hit it off really well with your roommate but after you guys get comfortable with each other he or she may turn in to a totally different person and break every promise they ever made to you.
The third is to go to the gym even if you have never gone before in your life. If you don't go now, you will for sure gain the freshman fifteen and then some. This is coming from the girl that started college at 120 pounds and gained a ton of weight because I didn't go to the gym.
And my fourth and final piece of advice to you is that you should continue to stay true to yourself and what you believe in. Don't change just because of the friends you have made or the person that you are living with. If it helps you stay grounded, call home often.
