One of the best parts about college is having the ability to decorate your dorm or apartment however you like. However, decorations can be really expensive and, as a college student, you are most likely counting every cent. These inexpensive but adorable DIY decorations allow you to be as creative as you like, making each year different from the last.

As I've been planning and making the decor for my apartment this year, I decided to share a few cute and easy decorations that can be personalized and put in any room:

1. Succulent Garden.

Succulents have quickly become a fad that has taken over, and it's easy to understand why! These adorable and simplistic plants are super easy to take care of and totally perfect for any dorm room! They can be planted in practically anything and only need to be watered every two weeks. Find a cute pot, cup, or bowl then purchase a few small succulents and you're ready to go!

2. String Lights with Photos.

String lights and photo prints are a classic way to decorate a college dorm. Give this classic decor a twist by adding some command strip hooks to the wall. Drape a piece of twine or string and add mini clothes pins to the line. Add the photos and the string lights and enjoy your work!

3. Canvas Paintings.

Another great way to fill the blank wall space is with some personalized canvas paintings. Buying pre-made canvases can be really expensive, but you can find a pack of blank canvases and every paint color you need for $10! Plan out what you want to paint, and keep it simple if you're not the best artist (remember, printing photos online and tracing will be your best friend). Add some glitter for some extra pizzazz. Easily hang your colorful masterpieces with command strips.

4. Mason Jars.

Another fad that I love is mason jars. You can use a mason jar for practically anything! In a dorm room, they're great for holding pencils, makeup brushes, flowers, cotton balls, and anything else you can think of! Grab a jar and start painting! Sand them down for a more rustic look or add some glitter for some extra personality.

5. Paint-Sample Calendar.

Staying organized is very important for college students, with all your classes and clubs and friends. A cute and easy way to stay organized is with this DIY paint sample calendar! Pick colors that match your room scheme or use it to add that extra pop of color! You can take pretty much as many paint samples from Wal-Mart as you'd like. Then all you need is a big picture frame and some expo markers!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
